I change the oil before I winterize, sucking the oil out the dipstick.

Ok well does anybody know how to winterize a motor with a bad impellor? Please help me, things didn't go to well....

pull the hose between the impellor and the motor, stick the hose in it run motor till thermostat opens, shut down, connect your antifreeze hose, start motor.

Have to be careful when trying to use the outdrive muffs when winterizing. Antifreeze is heavier then water which requries more suction to pull the antifreeze through the outdrive. Some boats just can't do it and end up overheating. Doesn't matter which technique you use, everyone should be watching their temperature guage. If you ran into problems I would definately go with phragle's suggestion. Make sure the antifreeze is higher then the motors and let gravity do it's job. See winterizing boats is educational as well. As far as fogging the engine, I simply add a little outboard motor oil to the new fuel filters before I install them and that fogs the engine while I'm running the antifreeze through each motor. Exhaust should get very white and smokey, the more smoke the better.
