Filing a claim?

Had my drives pulled at the end of the season, discovered a small hole in the port side bellow where something had punctured it. Besides for the hole the bellow is not wore at all and is in pretty decent shape. This was my first year with the boat so I don't know when the last time they were replaced. Due to the whole I know have to replace gimbal bearing, u-joints, etc. Thankfully the coupler is fine. Not sure about the internals yet in the drive. Thinking of filing a claim, does anyone know if it will be covered? Anyone ever file a claim for this type of thing before?

File a claim for what? Because you got a leak? I wouldn't think replacing all of that stuff would be much more than $800-$1000 for parts and labor. Suck it up and pay the piper, save the insurance claims for something major.

Why would you replace all of that just because the bellows had a small hole in it? In my experience, bellows deteriorate and need to be replaced every several years at max anyway. Filing a claim will cost you the deductible, which is probably more than the bellows - just a thought.

I would try to stay away from filing any kind of claims if at all possible. A few boats ago, I filed a claim and the insurance company ended up sending out a nautical engineer, and they did everything imaginable to keep from paying the claim. Trust me, it's a true headache, and only worth it if you have serious damage.

No, 5 year FormulaGuard is gone, bought my boat a few months to early, just missed the certified pre-owned 1 year warranty, they introduced it like 4 months after I purchased my boat. I tried to work around it but couldn't. My mechanic recommended that I contact the insurance company to see if they would cover it, he said that it's probably going to be over a grand to replace everything, but my deductible is a grand. I would rather not file a claim, but times are a bit tough right now, found out a month ago that in about 3 months time I won't have my job any more, I just love this ecomony.
