Default Formula 353 FASTech - how fast?

Hi!

I am looking at various options for a 34-35 feet offshore boat, and would be very happy if you could let me now real GPS speeds for a Formula 353 FASTech with engines such as:

@ 2 x 496 HO
@ 2 x 500 EFI
@ 2 x 575SCi

Cheers and thanks, Toffen - Norway

Toffen - Regardless of the power package you choose, you'll never regreat buying a Formula. The fit, finish, and quality of the boat is better than anything else out there for the $$. Are you going to use it in Europe, or in the USA?

Default Formula 353 FASTech

Hi!

Just now I am rigging a Skater 28 w/twin 2.5's for the summer with a friend.

However, I am looking for a more convenient offshore hull for Norwegian Fjords. I can get a new 353 FASTech with twin 496HO with 20% discount, but it is still USD20K more expensive than a Phantom 34 Classic (which is faster as well).

At Offshore Class One in Norway Arendal I checked out the Formula 353 FASTech, and it was just awesome. I have not seen a Phantom 34 Classic, but is looks awesome as well. More a racer to me, so it depends on the lady!

Cheers, Toffen G

Toffen - Just a couple of comments:

If speed is not the biggest concern, and you can afford it, consider the 382 instead. There's a lot more cockpit and cabin space, and it's really not that much more $$ once you look at the standard equipment lists between the two models.
There are lots of nice used 353's and 382's available here in the US. Not sure how hard it is to get them sent over, but I'm willing to bet that Formula will help you.
(I'm biased here, but) If you're going to use it in Scandanavia, you may want to seriously consider getting Volvo Penta power instead of Mercury.
No matter what, you'll be happy.

Fishman - Hmmm.... (After visiting Formula's website) You're right. I guess I bought at the right time, because the pricing difference wasn't as pronounced a few years ago.

As far as the bimini top storage thing goes - I've pestered Scott Porter and Boilerdaddy both about this. The bottom line is that the 382 uses the deck mold from the 382 SR-1 which is getting close to ten years old now. The 353 is a much newer design, and accounted for the 382's storage problems. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my bimini to fold up like a Jetsons briefcase car.... (Actually, it's not too bad of you roll it up and drop it down on top of the headrests.)

Default Formula 353 FASTech

Hi!

Thanks for the answers. I think Formula together with Phantom are the most gorgeous boats around.

How much do you have to pay for a 1999-2000 model 353 FASTech with 2 x 415 HP - or better - without engines?

I get 20% off retail on a new 353 with twin 496HO's, making it USD 160.000 base price plus extras. A Phantom 34 costs USD 123.000 with twin 496HO's running 80+ mph. But the 353 has a bigger cabin and is a more forfined cruiser. The Phantom is a F2 boat with a cabin ...

Cheers and thanks, Toffen G

Default Formula 353 Fastech

Hi!

Then 20% off for a brand new boat is a good deal. Rather have a new one than second hand ....

Cheers and thanks, Toffen G

Thumbs up

Toffen,

No problem - we're all glad to help. Don't dismiss the idea of a used Formula, particularly if its history is well-documented. Formula owners are very loyal, and usually sell their boats only to move up to bigger Formulas. "Magicfloat" here on OSO is a dealer (Nelems Marine) as are several other OSO members, and they will give you the straight story on anything they have in stock.

By the way - I spent most of yesterday showing one of your countrymen around Miami - Claes Axstal. He takes a VERY nice photo if you've ever seen his web site - www.axstalphoto.com

Default Very fast 353

Toffen, how fast do you want your 353 to go? You can't beat a Formula. I am on my second Fastech, a 353 with 600sci engines. This boat is very fast--91+ mph and super stable. I also wanted to mention it's for sale. E-mail me if your interested or check it out on callingallboats.com, it's on the front page.
