Has anyone Whipple Charged, or significantly upped the HP in their 242-LS?
A buddy of mine picked up a CHERRY 242-LS last Summer, with the 454/365 setup. He complains about the overall power throughout the power curve. I obviously suggested propping the boat, but also to look into a whipple setup.
Has anyone done this, or upped the HP significantly while staying naturally aspirated? What speeds are you guys seeing if so? Thanks!

I have a 1990 242LS that also had the 365HP setup and saw 54.5 MPH on GPS with a 23P 3-blade Mirage (non-plus model). Two years ago, I had a motor built. It is my 454 block bored 0.060 (496ci) wih Dart heads and intake, Holley 850 carb, MSD ignition, Stainless Marine exhaust, etc... It makes 615HP and about 620 lbs. of torque.
The best I've seen with this setup is 71MPH on GPS with a
27P Mirage Plus. I blew up the stock Bravo One the first year, but ran a Bravo X with Imco XR lower last year with no problems.
You have to put a huge amount of power to make these things go due to the hull design and weight.
Mine's now for sale!

A friend of mine has a 91 242 with a warmed over HP500 dynoed at 535 hp and gets 69.6 with a labbed 24" B1.
Stock 415 hp 502 produced 62 mph with the same 24" B1 and 61 with 23" mirage Plus.

Power upgrades
If anyone is looking to upgrade power.....I have the solution!!
2.3 liter Whipplecharger, intercooler, ALL wire harnesses w/ computer, manifold, and injectors, absolutly complete!!!!
EVERYTHING needed to run $3500 or bo. Had the set up on my 271;
made 650hp on 6# boost, from the standard 502 mag/450hp.
Great setup for stock or slightly mod mills.
blower has matte-black finish, "sidewinder style"
interested call (413) 822-3783 Jason

We built a 502 with lightning headers for our 89 242, should be in the 550 HP range. We have seen 73 on the GPS, but it usually runs 70/71. Worked a lot with props, and found the best was a simple 23 mirage plus with lots of cup. Faster it goes the better it rides. Oh yea, Imco -2 shortie gave it a nice flat ride. The 23 worked with both lower setups.
With the hook in the hull bow lift is soooo important.
This boat it also for sale.

I just picked my 91 242ls last month drug it home from california to washington state . The boats got a 502 mag with a procharger M1 . according to the procharger tech guys at my 4 lbs of boost i should see 45% power gain on the stock 420 crank shaft hp of my 502 . It was spinning a 24 4 blade at lake tahoe at 6,000 foot elevation im now around 2,000 feet here at home . Just waiting for this stinkin weather to come around so i can hit the water and do some carburator tuning and prop selection . my prop shops got me trying a labbed 26 4 blade bravo1 . seems alot of guys are sticking to the lower pitched props . what elevation are you guys running at ?
