Any one know the story on this 1998 382 from ny? damage on starbord side mainly also drives now up for salvage.

jeff32 03-18-2009 08:52 PM

I would not be surprised it's the one they had last year procharged...

Splitdecision271 03-19-2009 08:14 AM

where is it up for salvage?

answered my own question, just look at the picture

MahopacMarine 03-19-2009 03:03 PM

Yes guys....... Unfortunately that was our old boat. The boat was sold last year and hit on the highway by a loaded Tractor Trailer from what we were told. We were all saddened by the sight of this boat. Mahopac Marine had put a lot of time and money into the motors and care on this boat. Someone will get one heck of a deal. I have recieved MANY phone calls on this boat today. We will help anyway we can.

We are NOT offering it as a Salvage. This boat was previously owned by us and taken by the insurance company. I am not sure who is offering it.

Johni_o 05-09-2009 12:57 AM

I just bought this boat from a guy on Ebay.MahopacMarine was right it was one heck of a deal.Countless hours time and money was put into this boat and im excited to be getting her back into the water soon

jeff32 05-09-2009 07:18 AM

I'm on e-bay at least 3 times a week and did not see this boat... too bad...

J.B. Marshall 05-09-2009 10:56 AM

The damage is easy to fix,Its only Fiberglass and Structurally its still solid.Had to pull one engine to get to the inner wall but all and all it has been a fun project and coming together well.

Doesn't that boat have a grid system for the stringers? After an impact like that it could of popped it off the hull.

jeff32 05-10-2009 11:39 AM

why would it pop compared to the old stringer system? they are also glassed in...

The damage was more or less a side swipe.Probably both boat and trailer truck where traveling in the same direction and bumped.Really just knocking a hole in the side. The boat never took a head to head inpact.Grid system is solid and in place

As Johni-o said, looks like a sideswipe. Plus, the thermo-nuclear adheasive used to stick the grid to the hull will never come loose. If the gird system popped, the rest of that boat would have popped first. It's like the deck-to-hull joint, you couldn't get that apart without destroying the fiberglass.

Having said that, still looks like a pretty ambitious job there Johni-o. Hope it comes out nicely.

Johni_o 09-17-2009 02:23 AM

Sorry I thought everyone had forgot about me....Ive Finished it and love spending every weekend on it.Was going to bring it to the Sunsation poker run in NY but some things had come up.I spend every weekend on it...Wake up to the ac Keeping me cool in the am.I've had some problems with The engines since I never had a chance to run it on the water befor buying it...Im slowly working out some issues dont think i'll have it right till next spring. Was doin 83 the other day with only one procharger.I was Kinda excited that it may hit 90 or better once i get the other procharger back.I was told the boat once did 100 plus..hard to belive. But id be Smiling if id get there..Ill Post some pics on my link tonight hope everyone enjoys them..Thanks for asking how its going..

Glad to hear you've got her running. For speed information, my 382 had 500efi's with 8 PSI Prochargers when I bought it. I was told the boat ran 98.....I saw 95 in flat water and 5 people on board (I have removed them and built 540's now). Just thought you'd like that little piece of information!! :)

Joni O,

The boat only hit 100 once when was being tested. The motors were originally detuned and it ran a consistant 95-96. What drives do you have on the boat? Going from the XR's to the B-Max's to Konrads will result in parasitic loss and scrub off some speed but become more reliable.

J.B. Marshall 09-17-2009 12:01 PM

Johni_O very cool that you got the boat back in good condition. Congratulations, that was a major under taking. We definitely want to see pics of her, can you share with us what it cost you to complete the repairs.

Oddly enough, what reminded me to follow up with your progress was when I came across on another site the add that still has your boat listed for sale with the original damaged pics.
