how should I remove a painted name from the swim platform of my 336

need to get new name on and hailing port as it is a coast guard registered boat

Soak a rag with oven cleaner and see how well that softens it up. Or you can wetsand it off.

I ended up paying my detail guy a couple hundred to wetsand the old name off both sides.

Squirt the oven cleaner directly on the paint and let it sit for a few minutes. Use a plastic pot scrubber to help break down the paint. Wipe off the goo with paper towels- don't let it run down onto stripes, bottom paint, etc.. Repeat until done. You may need to wet sand to remove the ghost- depends on how obvious it is and your level of tolerance.

If the oven cleaner leaves some yellow residue on the gelcoat, wipe it with some bleach on a rag.

I have successfully used the oven cleaner method on one of my past boats but, that was a painted name on a gel coated boat. I be careful if your name is paint over paint.

Acetone and a plastic pot scrubber also worked for me. I aslo had to have a detail guy wet sand, buff, and polish the area after completing this method. Looked great!

On the tourpacks of motorcycles (fiberglass) we used Eazyoff oven cleaner and lettering/pinstripes etc. came right off.
