Default considering a 271

I'm considering a used 2006 - 2008 271 FasTech. Can anyone tell me about ride characteristics? How about speed, with a single 496 mag HO? Formula states 57-60 MPH......seems slow! I'd be happy with mid to upper 60s. Has anyone improved the 496 HO Mag to improve the performance like CMI headers, Dart heads, different cam? Is it worth it? Can I pull it with a 1500 GMC truck? What should I look for or avoid?? Thanks much!

I'm thinking that boat should run 65, my 93 with a 502/415 runs 58/59 and its tired, upper 60's probally not w/o mods, there are some guys her who will chime in with the newer 271's, as far as handling my boat is freaking awesome at 4000 rpm roughly 40-45 mph cuts thru pretty much everything but if I ran a 3000 rpm it tend to bounce the bow w/o tabs.. that being said I never feel unsafe and have had it in some snotty stuff poker runs etc.. as far as the truck I tow mine with a 05 GMC crew 5.3 and it does just fine. had it in some hills and its definetly not a 3/4 ton but definetly does the trick. I just wouldn't go towing through the rocky's

My 1999 271 did low 60s with factory 502 MPI power. It is a very solid ride at that speed but was a bit slow out of the hole. Trim tabs help a lot.
I have added 5lbs of boost since then and now run low 70s. It can get a bit squirrely at that speed in the chop so full hydraulic steering is coming soon.
