Hey gus I have a 91 311 I have had the air hammer sound a couple times in past when it seemingly went to high just held shaft straight and it went down, this weekend it started doing it in the down position when I tried to open it. needless to say havent got it open anybody else had this. do I need to replace it? anybody got one or a part number or source. will try to help it up and see if it will grab again when I can looking for suggestions thanks Randy

When you go too far in either direction, the ram ratchets and basically un-threads. You need to manually lift the hatch, remove the actuator, tear it down and reconnect the end. It's not hard to do and will be fairly obvious when you get it apart.

From then on, be careful not to over extend or retract too far. Put it down until you see the engine hatch relax, then stop.

also be sure to clean the screw well and grease it again did mine this year doing the same thing it was just lots of dried up grease
