The XR's are rate up to 600hp. Merc paired them with their 600's. I've seen them live with 850 behind them. Depends on how you drive. Heck, I had standard Bravos (Performance) with 600 hp and was able to make them live for one whole season WITH the Maximus!!

As for the Hydros, I have not tried them. I took the word of the BBlades (Brett) and went with the Merc props. I wonder if anyone is running a different brand on a bigger HP Formula?

Can you guys give me an estimate on speed with whipples on 525's and XR's?

I'm assuming roughly 750hp after the work is done, but I'm not planning on changing the drives or putting on boxes.

95 would be nice, but livability and dailly crusing are also imoportant.

What do you think?

I think 95 is easily reached with 750 HP, we have no clue what LE makes, figured around 750 hp maybe but I think it is more personally, think flies!!

Real horsepower numbers really don't mean as much as your setup. The boxes will give you 1-3mph and 2" shortie drives, after you fine tune them, will get you another couple. Whipples should get you in the high 80's to low 90's depending how much you turn them up. How much do you want to spend? It's all about the cubic dollars and how much effort you put into it.

As LE has said, there is no real set combination that works on every boat. I would start with the Whipples and a baseline prop and go from there. If you aren't fimilar with setting up a boat, get someone who is or knows. It'll save you a ton of money. Get the advice consistantly from someone in the know. Between LE and I, I think we can answer most of your questions. I think we have tried just about everything in a 353.

Thanks Dave. I thought you guys might be able to answer my questions after lurking here for a while.

I think LE's boat has more than 750 each side and I think I'd probably have a tough time getting over 90 without boxes and Shorties as I didn't think they would bring so much speed together.

I've been told boxes don't do much on this boat, but that could have something to do with the stock power vs. blower motors.

Do you know how far out the props are off the transom with boxes? This is still a family boat and I dont want the kids jumping off the swim platform and hitting drives or props.

Here's a profile shot, you can judge for yourself how far they are. The tie bar is just about even with the rub rail on the swim platform with the drives at about 5. It's not too bad getting on and off, actually it's eaiser with the ladder resting against the tie-bar for support instead of just folding inward. I always caution people swimming behind the boat, and so far, no problems.

The pics above show good views but in general it is a 12" set back.

LE is very much a family boat still too, it sees normal beach use with kids, so far all good! no injuries!
