Default Any 271 owners with 500/525's and/or DPX drives?

A friend is looking at nice 2001 271 with a 500/DPX package. I've heard that 271's can be hard to get up on plane. This package sounds like it will handle that issue.

What sort of speeds do these boats run with a 500 or 525?

Thanks!

That's a non-stepped hull, so it's hard to compare. Thanks anyway.

Looks like we should expect upper 60's at least...

Assuming this is the one out in Nevada? Did they ever looking into any deeper? I'm strongly considering looking more seriously at this thing since the price keeps dropping, and the prices on nice 242s just seem to keep moving up. I'm real happy with the Volvos in my PC, so I'm not afraid of this one.

Default 271 Hp500 Efi

Chuck, this is Bill Clark from college days (been a long time since we have chatted), I have 1999 271 with a HP500 EFI, currently running a 24p Bravo 1 prop, not issues coming on plane. Not as quick as a twin engine but muh better than a 27 Fountain. I am sure a DPX would give it a rocket holeshot. Prop slip at speed (both mid range and top end seems to be more of a problem with Bravo 1 prop.

I ended up buying that one. It went off market December 18th.
It'll be leaving US. for Sweden New Years Eve

If anyone reading this ever were at BoulderBoats checking it out, I would really appreciate if you shared your thoughts.

Thanks!

Great to hear from you Bill, and thanks for the input. My friend reduced his budget considerably and bought a nice used Checkmate locally.

Good move. Be sure to let us all know how well it runs. May I ask how much you paid for it?
