You must not be in the US? In the US Coast Guard regs do not allow it. I don't know why but I was going to do stainless for my tank tell I read the law.

Yeah, I'm in Sweden. Interesting how safety regulations can be so different in different places. This country is usually known for its (exaggerated?) focus on safety issues (this is where the seat belt was invented...) - but then again it is a major steel-producing country too so who knows the reasons for the different recommendations and traditions behind them.

Aluminum appears much more common in the U.S., but checking the US Coast Guard's Boatbuilders' handbook it seems to me that stainless steel isn't prohibited in the U.S. - but if it is used it may not be encased in foam, see here:
http://www.uscgboating.org/regulatio...rds_parta.aspx

Either way, avoiding foam around any metal tank makes sense to me now after having seen the corrosion that was caused by wet foam surrounding my (aluminum) tank.

You can try the hole saw deal but I don't see how you can get away with not cutting out the floor. Sorry to be the bad news guy.

If there is a gas/water mixure, I would not wet vac it out. An electric motor may ignite the gasoline vapor.
