I agree, 400ss are not hard on drives. The early models were due to Formula only putting bravo threes on them and the combination of hp/torque and weight were too much for the drive. When they switched to bravo 3 x for the 502/496 ho and bravo three xr for the 500/525 there hasn't been any real issues. My buddy has over 600 hrs on his with 502's and 3x's with no issues and I have none with mine 496ho and 3x's. Size comparison of aft cabin/ cockpit/ cabin and the full size fridge are defintely a huge plus over the 370. If you can swing it, the 400 is a great boat and the couple of mile speed diffrence is defintely made up for in the increased space.
