4 blade prop vs 5 blade
#11
I have been running the 5 Blade Maximus props for 4 seasons now, and haven't had a lower unit problem. I still feel that it is HOW you drive your boat. I am easy out of the hole. The boat pops right up on plane with NO effort.
Could I Holeshot the boat? Sure. Will it FLY up on plane? Yep! Question: WHY? What could be the big hurry? A ton of money!
Cruise speeds and fuel economy are directly associated with the Maximus props. With my N/A 650hp + - a few HP's, I have outstanding cruise speeds and killer fuel economy: 1.5 mpg at 48 mph at 3000 to 3100 RPMs. Carbureted (850cfm Demons)!!
Brett at BBlades did this set of 28 pitch 15 3/8" diameter no difusser rings, for me. I also run a 32 pitch 15 1/4" diameter, diffuser rings removed, Bravo 1 4 blade (BBlades as well) for top speed, but not as good at cruise.
Hope that helps!

i went the opposite way. My 05 353 with 525's and extension boxes came with 5 blades from the factory and i was running about 80-81 with them in fresh water. I swapped them out for a set of bravo one 4 blades and i was running around 86 with them could maybe of squeezed another 1 mph out of it if i really tried. but the boat came out of the hole quicker cruised better and had better top speed also was easier to control around the docks because the idle speed was slower.
