Formula will sell it to you...through your local dealer. I bought some factory fabric to make new panels that hold speakers and I wanted it to match.

Yeah....but my local dealer is REALLY proud of the fact that he's a Formula dealer...

I just need to know the manufacturer/distributor....and I would be happy to pay 20 a yard....

You may try calling Michael McLeod, not sure if they are answering their phones these days or not. But I do know he is still making a few bolsters.

I wouldn't think another dealer would undercut another... not even
"our guy". The great thing about buying a quality boat is that you can get it serviced by competent people with quality materials. The down side is, there's a cost involved. I feel your pain Commander.

Huh? Everyone on this forum has sought out "factory" parts at less than factory MSRP. And there's nothing wrong with a dealer selling at cost + X% if he so chooses.

The MSRP is $3.06 per square foot.Sold by the linear yard,it's 46" wide. Call me 205-221-3072 and we can try to fiqure out how much you need and total cost. I am kinda dumb on feet,yard,linear,etc.

Commander,with all due respect,I'm out of this.If you only buy wholesale,that's fine.I don't do wholesale.A $100 sale of silver vinyl is not worth all of this drama.Formula boats are expensive,their parts are also expensive,but they offer a level of service that no other builder does.That $36 switch is about right,you shouldn't blame the dealer.I think you might be better off to find an alternate non-Formula supplier if you want to buy cheap,and it can be done.However,I don't want to be involved. Should I buy Bosch wiper blades from the dealer because they make a "great" car? The dealer charges 75.....

They are $26 each at Bumper to Bumper. There is no difference in the quality, the dealer is just "proud"...

BMW does NOT make wiper blades. Their choice to use Bosch, or Mobile is simply to reinforce the value of the product that represents their brand....

Does Formula make a great product? Absolutely. Do they use materials of a high quality to prop up their brand image? Absolutely. Does that mean that they are justified in gouging....no way. Formula doesn't MAKE vinyl. They made a choice to use Moebern and I don't have access to it locally. Going through them does not make sense simply on principal. I don't believe in the "something for nothing" type of mentality that has pushed a measureable weight of the GDP into the likes of WalMart.

I'm in the biz. I know what stuff costs. Period. I have money, but it's not to give away. That's the way America went titties up....

If you are in the biz.. handle it yourself...this is an expensive hobby, stuff happens. Complaining over a 36 switch and then commenting on how you got taken...let alone giving Magic Float a hard time... is ridicules... take up sail boating, that may be more your speed..and less breaks there... and you can have all the titties you want

I feel you missed the point. It appears to me you want a Formula dealer to sell to you at or barely over their cost - at least that is the message you sent. So tell me why they should bare their overhead to make such a sweet deal to you?

I have no skin in this, and am not trying to create a sh!t storm here, but it gripes me when we all think we should get rewarded for our jobs each day, but someone else in business ought to give their stuff away.

C'mon Jass....don't pick a fight. I never gave Magic a hard time. I was told that he could get the stuff, so I asked. He never gave me a price, and I never debated it. I only said that I was NOT willing to let the dealer make a killing for a phone call...so if Magic is a dealer, and my course of thought has offended...I am sorry. It was not my intention. If he is not, then I am very confused, but still apologize if I offended.

It's not about picking any fight, it's about attitude - yours started the whole thing. There are some BS and some pretty up front people on this site - and when you come off as demanding that you only pay wholesale, which is what a dealer would pay - it comes off as though your attitude is their value to our community is very low in your opinion.

WOW, magicfloat is a dealer and would have treated you fairly if asked nicely....10% over probably not, but we're talking a $100 item. If your in the business then I want you to make my next interior.......seems a hundred dollars worth of fabric and a days labor should only cost me $300-400 right?

I own a printing company and do alot of digital work to photos. Just yesterday my wife had arranged studio portraits at our church and we were seated for about 15 minutes. She bought 3 8x10 that were framed, 6 5x7's, and a 20x24. I know these will take 30-40 minutes to edit and print out on $30 worth of material....she paid $423.00. I just rolled my eyes as she paid the bill.....they are trying to earn a living just like I am.

I read and re-read this thread....and I just don't see where I sent the wrong message in my reply to Magic.

Unfortunately, typed words show no inflection and it is easy to miss-take what someone is writing.

Magic never gave me a price, I never complained about what he might charge. I only made the statement that my local dealer was too proud....

The $100 that he referred to was based on me saying I would be happy to pay $20 per yard. (20x5=100)...

The "I buy wholesale" comment was not me telling Magic what I was paying....it was simply as it is written. I buy wholesale. I know what things cost. This is why my local dealer can't have my business.

And by the way, Moebern is less than $10 per yd. I never suggested that I wouldn't pay a fair price. Most retail runs at a 35-55% margin....if they are lucky. I clearly stated that I was willing to pay this and more.....just not to MY LOCAL DEALER. Especially when they are proud enough to expect in excess of +200% margin....for zero effort.

BTW: If Moebern (or whatever it's called) is $10/yd that might be what a distributor is paying for it, not what the Formula factory is paying for it, then they sell it to a dealer at a markup (unknown amount)...so paying $20 may not be realistic if the dealer is paying $18 or more.
Magicfloat said it was $3.06 per ft....... $3.06 x 9 sq ft per yd is $27.54.......if he likes you the standard rate might not apply. If I need something I call him for it and don't even ask the price anymore, his reputation for helping people is well earned.

Maybe next time ask the price before *****ing that's it's too high???

The vendor is located in Ft.Lauderdale FL. The name is Southern Top and Trim.

Total cost ...... I gave him a hundred and got toll money home across alligator alley AND I was towing. (meaning higher toll)

1/2 of what I was willing to pay. I am putting this up just in case someone else needs and cant find.

Be sure and contact me next time for your vinyl needs. I have several rolls in various colors that came right from Formula. There has to be a total of over 280 yds. A good friend of my family retired from Formula and recently relocated back to his home town. He claimed some of it had blems however I have yet to see any however I have not gone through all of it. I have stored it in my shop and am in need of some extra space so if you could put it to good use let me know. In fact I am going to be heading down your way the middle of March to deliver a new truck. I can easily throw this on and meet up with you if your interested in it. 280 yds = a boat ride and a few beers. I am always happy to help out fellow boaters when I can. I will never use it and would hate to see it go to waste.

How far are you from Ft. Meyers?

I got it down yesterday and on a pallet. All looks good except where my German Shepherd pissed on one end of the rolls. :cuqui:

No worries though, it all cleaned up except where is soaked into some of the silk on the back side. I'm sure by the time I get down there all will be good. May have to skip the boat ride. I'll be in a bit of a rush. Thanks for the paypal, I really didn't want anything for it. At least now I can afford some more spandex bras for boating this summer. It seems like my tits hurt more and more every year from bouncing on those G. D. waves.
