Need help with Kenwood Audio System
Hi Guys, I just purchased a 2008 353 and the sound system won't work properly.
The sound only come rich from the port cockpit speakers. I tried the balance/fader and it's not that. When I switch my red and black wire behind the amplifier, the rich sound comes from the starboard side. I know it is not the speakers.................. Any help would be appreciated.................:hitfan: |
sounds like you have a broken amplifier channel or the channel from the deck itself is broken which is what i would bet you have verified that all your wiring is good and your speakers are good . boat stereos take alot of abuse even though yours is new . fyi go get a new deck and try a 300.00$ or above alpine they make the best stuff if you ask me . very simple to hook up also for your setup .

Which kenwood unit do you have?

KAC-8401 (4 channel power amplifier)

Guys, for your info, I have also a Pirate Intercom system and that also won't work.
The Pirate intercom is also linked to the VHF and that's the only sound that I get from my headsets. It works fine with the VHF but that stereo system is all screw up. |
Take that Kenwood factory POS out and put in something good. :D Sometimes you don't have to take them out.....they do that themselves. :D

I agree with the others. Ditch the kenwood, their stuff has been low quality for 15 years or better. I have both an Alpine and a Sony in my boats. Personally I like the Sony better. The I pod interface is much easier to navigate than the Alpine. Plus you can get the 60 series sony w/I pod adaptor and the LCD remote commander on ebay for around $200.00. The similar Alpine setup will run you at least double and IMO its no better.

Sound to me like you simply have a speaker out of phase. One speaker is moving "in and out" while at the same time the other is moving "out and in". Get to one of the speakers and switch the wires on it, you should notice a big difference.

I will run test later this week with a new deck and let you know if I have any success.
Guys thanks for your input, it is appreciated...........:throw: |
You might be able to solve the problem with your speaker sound balance by changing your deck, but the only way you'll be happy with the over-all sound quality of the stereo system (especially when the boat is underway) is by upgrading the amplifier and adding at least a couple of component speakers to the mix.
I remember looking at the kenwood system when I first got my boat and thinking that it looked like a quality system... but the day after my first ride on it, I was on ebay buying a new 4 channel kicker marine amp and component speakers. Nort is right... the kenwood is a POS! Save yourself the aggravation and scrap it now before you waste anymore time trying to make it sound better... It never will! :cuqui: |
Guys, I disconnected the noise suppressors and plug the RCA cable directly into the stereo and now everything is working fine.
According to the technician that help me out, he stated that those noise suppressors are low quality and that I really don't need it. Thanks for your input. Now I have a good sound all around, cabin and cockpit. :drink: PS. Formula support was great, nice to have someone at the other end of the line answering my headaches..................... Can't say the same with my previous Baja............. |
