Are there any known Big Block conversions of 292's?

I was thinking about twin 496HO's in a 292. Probably 400 lbs more weight in the stern and approx 200hp more than the avarage 6,2.

What do you think of this?

If I had the coin to upgrade to 496's over 6.2's I'd do it. No replacement for Displacement. The 6.2's are a solid 70 + mph boat but thats it. 496's should be in the 80 mph range.

If you are referring to the newer Fastechs (twin step), none that I know of. IMO it is too much weight in the back of what is essentially a 27' boat (less swim platform). Rough water handling would not be good. If you are looking for 425 HP engines, build a couple small blocks. Same HP and no loss in handling.

My old Formula 292 SR-1 had twin 454 mag and Bravo's..ran 76 MPH ..was factory...so i don't think there would be a problem even on the fast tech models !!!

I heard dimensions only allow small blocks. Width wise I think they will fit but length wise I think is where there is a problem.

You can't fit bb's in the newer 292's

I disagree, they are two different boats. The older SR-1 did not include the swim platform in the length and is a larger boat overall with more free board. Attached is a pic of my 2006 292 with twin 6.2's. I would have to read about a successful big block conversion for newer 292's to believe it is a good decision. I don't think it has ever been done. The race winning 292 Fastech had a single big block.

after running my new to me 03 292 on lake erie for a day i would say no way to bb s 8ft 3in beam would be tight plus stearn heavy plenty of speed with 6.2s at least for lake erie chop chop chop

check the width between the outdrives if there about 36' center to center big blocks will fit usually small blocks have 33' center tocenter of the out drives where width is a problem
