A little Formula trivia
I've often wondered what the "SR1" moniker of the late '80's Formulas stood for. I was going to call Formula to find out but it'll be more intersting to see what everyone here thinks it stands for. I have no idea.
|
Not sure but believe it dates back to '82 with the 302 as a trim offering vs the LS...interested myself
|
I didn't know it went that far back. Interesting.
I agree it was first a trim or option level badge. For instance, the 242LS was a 242SR1 when it came with twins and bolsters. |
ttt
T'sup? Nobody has any witty ideas for what it stands for? My fellow Bird-Brains are letting me down. |
I too am very curious, maybe it means Semi-Race :bigbird:
|
Super Retro?
Stable Ride? Super Rich? Sport Racing? Stupid Retard? :D |

Gotta be one of the two! :D
I'll be carefull here!:drink: I would think the LS would have been Luxury Series, and my guess would be that the "SR1" would be Sport & Racing, in that the bolsters would have been in line with that back in the era. With the "1" indicating it's percieved ranking amoungst those in the fray. :party-smiley-004: |
according to one of the many insurance companies I talked to when trying to insure my 272SR1, it stands for "super racing class 1" and makes the insurance triple:confused:
Needless to say I took my business elsewhere. |
Intersting replies. We'll let this go for a bit then if no one is absolutely sure, I'll contact Formula to see who was right.
I think I'll go with Zupman, Super Racing 1 sounds plausible. As for you Ragged, the only "perception" is that your boat is actually 35 feet long. :drink: |

By the way, my engines are back in as of last evening. Need to hook up plumping and electrical, toss the drives on and I'll be ready. Hopefully splash it on Sunday. When are you putting your's in, July 1st?:lolhit: |
SR 1 = sport & racing 1st gen.

Although I have not personally measured it, the specifications are 31'-1" bow to stern, not including the platform. 33' overall.

I could be a chit head and just run it and let someone fix what they guranteed they fixed and re-fixed already. Just seems like a big waste of fix money to me, so here I sit. I'd love a boat ride, can I come down on Sunday? :drink: |

Super Revered :party-smiley-020: With "Revered" meaning: to show honor and devotion to; Synonyms: REVERENCE WORSHIP ADORE Ummm... yeah... I've been working my a** off on my SR-1 and I only have a few months left before it all starts!!! |
I was always under the impression it stood for:

Oh, btw, Formula is still in business with the Porters, the original owners since what, the 70's? They know how to run a business. Unlike Mr. Fountain who ran his into the ground with excessive spending on gold chains and fake hair! "Sorry shareholders that your stock is worthless, but don't worry I took enough money out of the company for me and my family to be plenty rich". I am sure that is why Liberty asked him to walk. Oh, lastly just because they are fast, doesn't make them ethical. That matters to some of us. Dave |

Most people that see it, love it. |
On Facebook whoever runs the page says as far as they could tell it was Sport Racing and Luxury Sport. But the way they wrote it made it sound like no one really knew for sure.
I will stay out of the Formula/Fountain war other than to say you have to know what you want and buy accordingly. The boats cannot be compared apples to apples. Oh, and the F2 Formula 382s did extremely well back in the day so Formula can cobble together a fast boat if they choose. |

I seem to recall the SR-1 moniker had a little something to do with this:

Well put...I am not bashing Fountain, well sort of, but it angers me that people have this image of Reggie as the "King". He is a thief who stole the crown jewels and is getting away! He robbed thousands of investors money and nobody will admit it, I just don't understand...Drink the kool aid!
