Default 242 speed

I am looking to get a 242 in the late 80's. There is a 1985 242ls with a 350 going for 8000. I want to know what the top speed for that is? Anyone ever have one and have some sort of average top speed for it. Please help.

The best speed in my 242 was 56gps with the BBC. Good riding boat but not speed demons

I was able to get 52 gps out of my 86 with a 21 pitch prop and a healthy small block and a half tank of gas.

Second season with my '85 242LS w/ twin 350s, 2bl Rochester carbs, diverted exhaust. I got 54 on a bouncing speedo last summer. Armed with a GPS this year, I'll let you know next week (not expecting much difference).

Where on the Cape? We boat out of Falmouth. I'd go with a 272 if you're set on a Formula. We had a 233 and a 272 and the 272 was much better in rough water. We just picked up a 30' Sutphen, so we'll see how that handles the water.

Ok, well, something a bit bigger than a 242 would be better. The 242 won't be too bad, but a 272 or something like it would be better. Buzzards Bay can get pretty rough.

I had an '87 242 SS last year with a 350 mag, it would do 46 on the GPS. I loved the ride of the boat and bought a 242 LS this winter with a bad engine. The engine is just about done and the boat will be in the water this week. I should be at or just under 600 hp and am hoping for low 70's. The 350 isn't bad but your not going to be winning any races with that engine. Mine had plenty of power to go out and play in 4-5 foot lake michigan waves.......
