Do-It-Ourselves 2010 Chesapeake Rendezvous?
UPDATE:
There will be a 2-day raft-up with an optional overnight stay in Still Pond CReek on September 18/19. Details are posted on Formula's Facebook and Twitter pages. Formula will send coozies for every registered boat, as well as a couple of door prizes. The format is open, so feel free to make suggestions. Confirmed so far (8/18/2010): "Me, Too!", 382 FaStech, 2 adults, overnighting "Funny Girl", 41 PC, 2 adults, overnighting "LynchMob", 330 SunSport, 2 adults, 2+ kids, duration TBA "Just One More", 31PC, 4 adults, overnighting "Peace & Quiet", 242 SR-1, 2 adults, 2 kids Saturday I'll add to the list as people commit. We're trying to set the list by September 7 in order to get the right number of Formula goodies. |
We would possibly be interested in a overnight like that. I bet we could get a certain President and First Lady to show up in his recently upgraded 311 too.
|
Great idea, we'd definitely be in depending on the date.
For overnight, we're at the Granary and usually have availability on the bulkhead right behind us. There's also a bunch of 30' slips and a few 40' that can be made available. I keep the 223 next to the 37, but only for the weekends and if it's not needed for transients. |
Treads has expressed interest on FormulaBoatsForums, so that's something like 6 boats already.
Can everyone make September 17-19? |
Best I can tell that works for us. Will double-check when the social secretary gets home.
|
Formula is checking their records to see if they have any contact information from previous events. They are also willing to publicize the event on their Facebook page and in their e-magazine, and throw in some giveaway items.
In the meantime, please pass the word in person to any Formula owners that you see. We'll work on a date based on consensus. (I am not 100% certain on my September schedule just yet...) One thing that will be key in selecting an overnight location is how many people will need to have hotel rooms versus staying onboard (at a marina). |
Cool, thanks for the legwork. I will certainly let all the Formula regulars that I see know about it.
I'm not sure how many rooms are at Great Oak, but on the Sass the Kitty Knight House has ~6-8 rooms. Only issue with them is they are often booked with weddings. I can check with them this weekend to see how availability is looking. |
I'm considering a number of options. One may be to organize a two-day raftup in Still Pond, where those who want (or need) to leave overnight can do so and go wherever they want (home, trailer, hotel, marina...). The big cruisers, mother ships, and adventurous people can stay overnight. Some of the boats with generators could supply power to those who would stay if they had electricity. I know of a couple of 382's that have a/c but no genny.
If we try to organize something based at a marina, they may require some sort of deposit, and I'd rather try to keep this on more of a "fun run" basis. This thread also runs in the "Rendezvous" section of FormulaBoatsForums.com and in the "Formula Owners" section of Speedwake.com... |
We are going to take a look at the dates.:drink:
|
I and a few others may be interested in towing down from NJ to join the event. What marinas are trailer friendly? Does anyone have pictures of any ramps in the area? I was looking at the Mears Great Oak marina but how's the ramp? The place looked interesting because the fastech guys can get a room.

The event is now posted on Formula's Facebook page now, along with an area for questions and comments...
|
How is great oaks? Hows the ramp? I may have a 312, 292 and my 26pc coming down on trailers and looking for a nice spot to get them wet and maybe overnight.

I travel around the Bay with three 400SS usually, I will run this by them...
|
Greak Oak is a good marina with recently refurbished bath/showers and a reasonable restaurant/bar, plus Jellyfish Joel's Tiki Bar. I can't speak to the ramp, as I have not launched there. There are also ramps at Anchor Marina in North East, MD, at Elk Neck State Park on the Elk River west of the C&D Canal and at Duffy Creek Marina in Georgetown.

Bump - Attendees updated.
|
Sept Raftup
We will be attending and staying over night in Still Pond

We are in, probably just for the day saturday, Possibly 4 adults and 2 kids.

If anyone is closer to deciding for sure whether or not they will be coming, please post it. I am getting ready to issue an update. Right now it looks like 11 boats/33 people for Saturday, with 4 boats/10 people staying overnight and Sunday.
September 7 is the cutoff date to make sure that you get goodies from Formula. Anyone can come after that, but I can't gaurantee any giveaways... |
Looks like we're up to 15 boats for Saturday. Remember: September 7th is the cutoff if you want your Formula goodies!

If all goes well... for two adults - Saturday and Sunday.
I'm planning to tow the '90 F292 SR1 from Allentown and dunk it at Anchor but still working on the details and will update ya'all later. If we decide not to sleep in the boat, anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks to all for their efforts Glenn & Tommy |
If you're launching at Anchor and want to put it back on the trailer, there's a Holiday Inn Express nearby. Otherwise, Mears Great Oak Marina is about 7 miles away in Fairlee Creek. They have a few hotel rooms there.
|
You can always camp out on Fairlee Creek on the small island coming in. It's great . Best view on the water
|
I'd like to request that each boat handle their own beverage and main course needs for any meals, but bring a side dish or dessert to share with the other folks.
We can bring a lightweight badmiton-style net to set up is anyone is interested. I'm not sure how well it would hold up to a real-life volleyball, but a game could always be scared up with something a bit lighter. The water should be about 3 feet deep during the middle of the days. If anyone has any other suggestions for activities or for ways to distrubute the Formula-supplied door prizes, please post them |
Chuck,
Boat is a 1987 and wifes name is Chrissy. |
We will have a dog with us, anyone know if there is a place to walk him. We have a kayak to get him ashore? It's been years since I have been in Still Pond. If I recall, there is no places to eat there also?
Also if anybody needs a New 4 blade 28 inch pitch Bravo one SS prop let me know. This was an extra prop on my old Active thunder with twin HP 500's |
Anyone coming down on Saturday, let me know what time. We will be putting in at Anchor and running down from there.

Lots of people take their dogs to the beach on the north side. It's ony about 100 yards, but there is a 8' deep channel in between. Our friends on "Funny Girl" have a Pekinese that will need transport to shore as well, if you can help out. They don't have a tender.
Correct, but we asking everyone to bring in a share-able side dish or dessert. Each group should bring in their own drinks and main course. I have a one person kayak that anybody is welcome to use. My dog sits on my lap. Any problem getting in from the bay. I keep reading how shallow it is. I draw 3.5 feet with my drives |
