Default 2003 vs 2004 400ss differences

Can anyone confirm any differences between the 2 years.

also, any reason to go for the 500s vs the 496s?

More and more of these are popping up all over the place.... getting closer to pulling the trigger on one!

Thanks!

The later model 03s changed the interior to cherrywood and continued through 04 other than that there was no changes. I have the 500s in our 400 with bravo 3 x drives and our very happy with that package.

The reason we did not sell as many 500hp boats was two fold.
1. The 500hp exhaust system HAS to open at around 3200 R.P.M. so the motor can breathe. This was the speed that people wanted to cruise at and they did not like the noise.
2. The speed increase for 500hp over the 496/425hp motors did not justify the cost.
3. The 500hp used a 502 cu.in block and the 496 used the 8.1L Vortec block. Close water cooled, more reliable. The only one we had go bad had a catastrophe failure and loss a rod.

We will have to wait and see what the NEW 8.2L 502 w/catalytic converter will be like. Stay tune for update................Capt. Steve
