Default tech question-lost my steering today...

I have standard power steering (not hydraulic) and I think it's my cable. The steering was binding-up and then "locked-up" to the point that I couldn't steer it anymore and had to get towed back.

My question is if my dealer replaces the cable, how much should it cost me? I bought the boat used from this dealer "as-is" so I hope they take care of me.

It's a 303SR1. Boilerdaddy, any comments? Thanks.

Toolman.

Definitely sounds like a bad cable. They run about 150-200 retail and 1-2 hours to install. It is not a hard job but can be a little tough to feed from front to back or vice versa.

Yup that is about it. I am sure they will get ya for a little more then 1-2 hours depending but still not a hugely expensive job.

Thanks guys for your comments. I just took the boat to the dealer today and he'll let me know what it is.

secretformula, where do you stow your anchor in your boat? Also what do you have for power and props? Mine has 502MPI's and 23 pitch mirages. I don't know my top end yet or wot rpm's since I only have about 3 hours of seat time in the boat. Gotta get used to it first. (good thing i was going slow when the steering quit).

axapowell,

The boat ran great all day until the steering problem. It's a blast to drive, much better than the 23 footer. The ride is great too! Can't wait to take it out again!

Are you going to 1000 islands for the poker run? We might go just to hang out. June 21-22 is the Alex Bay run. Let me know if your going to be there.

Tell me how your boat is after you take delivery. Good luck with it!!

Toolman,
I'm going to try to talk the dealer where I bought the boat from to give me an extra weekend slip so I can be there for the run. He included 1 month of dockage which starts May 17th and ends June 17th, so...I'll let you know how the boat runs and if I'll still be up there that weekend. Will you be bringing your boat to A-Bay? If not, and we have ours, How 'bout getting together for an adult beverage? I know my way around there pretty good, if you know what I mean!

AXA,

If we go to 1000 islands, I will definitely be taking the boat. what dealer did you buy your boat from? Are you going to stay on your boat or get a motel that weekend? If you have any motel suggestions let me know.

Hope we can get together up there for drinks and maybe you can show us around a little. We've been there 3 times, but there's so much to take in. Very tricky water depth!!! (Granite and STainless DON'T mix)!

Happy boating!

Dave - Sorry to hear about the steering drama, but glad it didn'te lead to worse things.... Hope the marina can fix it quickly and cheaply. By the way, Boilerdaddy's out of the office for a few weeks.

If you go to 1000 Islands, let me know - I have the chart, and you're more than welcome to use it.

Will you be able to attend the NJPPC raftup at Dredge Harbor next Saturday (the 18th)?
