Formula Dealers
Hi I am wondering if there are any Formula dealers on the board. The dealer that is here in illinois sucks they are totally lost when it comes to parts. I am waiting for a call back from three weeks ago about a few parts for the swim ladder.
Thanks |
A great guy and Formula dealer used to be a regular here but don't see him much anymore.........hopefully he'll log on and see this.
|
North of you there is Shipyard Marine in Green Bay, WI. They're busy guys, but great at finding stuff and communicating, though I've purchased two Formulas from them, so that might help my case. But try talking to Scott.

Contact Robert at Nelems Marine, he is one of the best guys in the business. Many on this board will verify that. Nelems Marine: (205) 221-3072 13259 Highway 78, Jasper, AL 35501 |

NEW NEWS! Robert (Nelems Marine) announced yesterday in the Formula thread that he has been dropped as a formula dealer, he posted it and deleted his post about 2 hrs later.

I absolutely agree with that statement. |
Wow, sad to hear about Robert. I was on Formula's website and I entered my zip code and the local dealer has been dropped. It does appear that they are re-structuring their dealerships.
|
Wow, I thought Nelems was one of the bigger dealers!!! Too bad for Robert, I bought a few things over the phone with him and he was outstanding to deal with. I even caught at a boat show on his cell phone, he was pretty busy and he still took care of me.

Hmmmm... I just did a dealer search near Jasper, AL on the Formula website and Nelems Marine still shows up.

Call Mike R. (810) 964-4847, he can take care of all of your Formula needs.

I called Formula today and asked them how they expect any dealer to sell boats when The bank that financed legend marine is selling them fo 40 cents on the dollar. They said those don't have a warranty. My answer to them was 90k buys a lot of parts.
I am very unhappy about Robert no longer being with Formula. But he is probably better off as they have priced themselves right out of the market. When this is all over the smaller builders will be the only ones left. |
I never really wanted to buy a new repo Formula, but I still searched nationwide and studied them, as they affect the market pricing structure. In the end, I purchased two lightly used Formula boats in the past year, all of them from a Formula dealer who had them in stock, non of them repo'd. For too many reasons to list but mainly due to the fact that boats really are not being given away, any $.40-45/dollar boats surely have weird issues (there is a reason some of these repo "dealers" don't answer all your questions), and any long time boater knows a service relationship with a dealer just cannot be overlooked. I would expect Formula to take care of the dealers who have been providing good service, so this thread has caught my attention.

The strange happenings with the dealer network has made everyone
a little crazy. I hope the outcome does not include the loss of more great dealers like Robert. A dealer network is absolutely necessary for customer care and service. He is a fine example of what it takes to keep loyal customers coming back time and again. I spoke with him yesterday and he is like most all us dealers, still think the Formula boat line is the best on the market. I guess we shall have to wait and see what the powers to be decide..........until then? Capt. Steve Lemens Glencove Marine Lake of the Ozarks :cool-smiley-011: :cool-smiley-011: :cool-smiley-011: |
[QUOTE=selpel;3196637]. A dealer network is absolutely necessary for customer care and service.
Is it I am not sure,as most dealers won't take trades or want them for nothing and service from most is marginal at best.Is it really worth the 30%+they are making on boats.Next one I am going direct if new.Any warranty issues send me the parts I will put them on myself.Or if its engines or drives there is only like 5k places we can go. Just went into Formula's site Trenton is gone too. |
Well i guess you must have been upset with your dealer by the way you talk. For that I am sorry, the shakeup will get rid of the less than desirable dealers out there. With their bad service and pricing structure they will be no great loss. I would love to see someone in the last 3 years make 30% on anything but I am willing to bet that aint happening. Times are tuff and it is a buyers market with all the repo boats out there, BUT they will be gone eventually and maybe that will help the used boat market grow stronger.
As I said in my last post the bad things happening to people like Robert and his customers is sad............:cool-smiley-011: Capt. Steve |
For what it is worth, my Wiconsin Formula dealer took a trade from me this summer and I know of other cases where they have taken trades this year, though I don't know if it has been easy for them to pull off. My Formula dealer has done a ton of service work, including getting the parts and figuring things out. I don't have time to monkey around with most of the small issues, even if the parts magically appeared in a big brown box at my slip with instructions on what to do. Also, unless my research was totally off, their margins are slim to negative. I know Formula has cut back production, the supply/demand situation will improve, it is just a matter of when.

Been in the business 44 years. If I could have made 30% I would have retired 25 years ago,LOL.It is a tough business.I tell my friends that I wish I had a son so I could forbid him to go into the boat business.Don't be concerned about us,we have some great boat lines that sell at a profit(wish it was 30%)This is a glitch in our plan, you get resilent in 44 years. We have been blessed with good employees, good customers, and good vendors. The Porters are the classiest folks in the industry, but they have to make changes like all of use. Thanks for the support,we are fine. Robert

Well double trouble it is nice to hear someone is happy with their local dealer. I enjoy helping anyone with a problem get an answer or parts that they need............:cool-smiley-011::cool-smiley-011:

Steve The thing with Robert just rubbed me the wrong way I know he will be fine its just wrong.I would also like to know how when I bought my Formula I was told how great Formula's hold their value, now they are a hard boat to sell.I know the whole market is bad but it seems that the Fastechs took a harder hit than other brands. What stinks is the money that I am upside down on my boat is basically whats keeping me from my next boat. But I can handle that just pay it off and take the loss.It will back me up a year or two but it is what it is. |

No I don't have a problem with Trenton were I bought my boat. They were worthless for parts so the few things I needed I got from Robert. While I would not say that Trenton was a bad dealer I just got better service from a guy who did not even sell me the boat This is not the first time I have heard this about your ex-dealer. And this is also why I joined several different web sites to help upset customers. The fact that the resale value is in the tank on your Fas-tech is in the fact that ALL performance boats are at the bottom of the resale curve. The fact of all the repo boats is not helping the issue either!......:cool-smiley-011::cool-smiley-011: capt. Steve |

the damage is perrenial. these 'po's will be right back in the used market undervalued and undermining our used values for years to come... |
It is unfortunate that Robert is gone from the Formula network, but as he stated,he has other lines of boats, hopefully cheaper. And I think that is what we will see selling for quite a few more years. Just my opinion. Can a new Formula be bought direct from the manufacturer, like Fountain. I have never got a specific number from a dealer on a new boat. If you price one on the Formula website, the list price is insane. Close to $500,000 for a loaded 382 with 600,s.

Who pays list price? You might get UP TO 40% off on certain models and these are not repo's. Formula needs to get rid of the smoke and mirrors pricing strategies. I pulled up to a marina dock a few weeks ago and some guy was talking about how "that's a $600K" boat, but you know that is really not the case and it makes things too confusing for people who are actually buyers.
|
Double Trouble,
Is that your user name because you have the 382 poker run Double Trouble, with the 700,s? I absolutely love that boat> |
I would have a lot of fun with a 382 with 700's but I am currently in a boat which is just about perfect for someone with twin two year old boys...boat name is "Double Trouble II" and she frequents Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, home port being Port Superior marina (Bayfield, WI).
|
Double,
I did see that you have the 40ss,but you posted that you bought two boats this year. That would be quite the arsenal of Formulas. Anyone know were the Double Trouble 700 382 is? Or the 382 that was at Commonwealth Boat Brokers a few months ago? I believe that was a 600 boat. BTW cool name with the twin boys! |
