the guy who does service on my boat had a customer who needed tow motors for his 280ss, so i sold him mine and i got the 383strokers . What a different boat is . as far as sending them i dont know if they do that.

Well guys, just wanted to bump this thread and give ya an update...it took an entire year, but today, thanks to the advice you all gave, I became a Formula 292 Fastech owner! Last years fall deal fell through, three days before delivery. That was on the 2006 292 w/ 6.2's and 275 hours. Good things come to those who wait, I bought a 2003 292 w/ Scorpions with only 170 hours and it runs like a demon!

28 pitch props and this baby lept on plane full of fuel with me and the saleman on board. We had 2 foot of chop on Onieda Lake for the sea-trial...we hit 76.5 on GPS and with the acceleration I felt, it sold me on the spot! A buddy said that going to small blocks and a heavy hull would be way different from my 575 SCi Excalibur and don't think its gonna accelerate or be as throttle responsive as the blower motor. WRONG! The throttle response was fantastic all the way to full. The heft of the hull is a great feature in the chop and the Formula quality is obvious from the start. I had no problem writing out the check for this boat, the best boat purchase (#4) I've made...everything I wanted and imagined and more. Now I have to learn how to drive it. Let the fun begin! :coolcowboy:

It is the one Congel had. If you have some "insider" information on it, it would be appreciated! Better to head off a problem now than later. Clean, low hour boat with just a cosmetic ding or two. Owned by an elderly man on the River that used it to get to his waterfront home and back. Congel used it as his personal boat this summer and wouldn't let it go despite offers until after Labor day. Said that it did come stock with 30 pitch bravos, but the holeshot planning time was bad and they highly recommended the 28's. After the test drive, it looks like the 28's are right. They said I'd loose about 2-3 mph on the top end. What do you guys think? This weekend I'll be putting it through the paces on Lake Ontario. I've done the Swamp Run in the past, great run. I look forward to it next year. From my hour on it yesterday for delivery, I'm impressed.

What is the horsepower rating of the Scorpion engine and is the rating at the crank or prop. Stock 6.2's are rated at 320HP, but I'm not sure if that is at the crank or prop either.

pondrunner, congrats on your purchase!:drink: I love my 292, but more hp would be nice. Do you now what rpm were you were running at 76.5 mph? Are the 28" pitch Bravo's labbed? I assume you have hydraulic steering. If you don't have K-Planes, that is a really nice upgrade with respect to handling. I put them on mine.

Very Familiar with the boat as is RaggedEdge here on the board. Tried to buy it before it went to Syracuse but we couldn't get the numbers to work as the value of the boat in the current market and what they needed to sell it for was too far off. Custom ordered from Formula spent most of its life on a lift down the road from me. Low hours and well taken care of. That boat has some custom reinforcement lift features for use with Davit boat lifts from the factory. The River where it was kept was the St. Lawrence and was kept at their camp on the mainland so think the dealer was a little off on the original owner info. Let me know what other information I can provide.

Congrats on the boat, like expensive date said the blue motors are great. I fyou hit 76 on the speedo your right on. Powerboat mag did a test on that year boat with the same power, I believe they topped out at around 76. Anyway good luck with the boat. 292's with scorpions are hard to find.

Well, I got to run about 6 hours on the boat this weekend...and I'm still quite impressed. No buyers remorse at all, just kept saying I wish I had bought one sooner!:drink: Had a long-time Formula friend of mine, Thirdbird, go for a ride and he gave a big thumbs-up as well as all my Baja-buddies!

A couple things have come to mind after having a weekend to run the boat. THe 28 Bravo's get up on plane quite well, but I still noticed abit of slip(blowout) coming on plane, not constant, but there off and on. Also, you guys have said to run a neutral(mid) position on the drives. At about 4-5 the prop slips or blows out. The dealer told me on the test ride to run about about 2-3 off the bottom in rough water and go up to 5 in flat water and this seems to be where it runs in those conditions. Is this the correct set-up? I know the boat originally came with 30 pitch bravos, and wonder if that really would be the better prop. I'm turning 5200-5300 at WOT and occasionally tickle 5400. Spec range is 4800-5200 rpm. Where is the rev limiter set on the Scorpions? I don't want to be banging into it constantly although I don't think I have hit it yet. The dealer said the boat really struggles with the 30's getting on plane and with the 28's, they only saw a 2-3 mph loss on top end. I'm not displeased at all with the performance, quite the contrary, just want to know for sure what the proper set-up should be. I'll need a second set of props anyway so want to get it right. With three people in the boat, 3/4 tank of fuel, 65 degrees the boat hit 75.5 GPS on flat water, so I can't complain and I can get it down to 3000 rpm and 38mph with tabs down for cruising.
To answer 4mulafastech, the Scorpions are 377hp, 350 at the prop and the 28 bravos are stock. It does have hydraulic steering and I agree that Kplanes or at least a longer tab would be a worthy upgrade...
