Default old 272 boat restoration

Ok, I picked up a 1989 272 formula for what I thought was a good deal; and would like a little advice as to what to do with it... how to fix it;

It has a few issues...

It has t454's 330hp, compression good, bravo 1 out drives, corroded- lowers badly.

I am going to replace the lower part of the outdrives and clean up the uppers and the transom plates; what can I use to fill the cavitys from the corrosion?

The boat was not treated very nicely the last 5-10 years...

The previous owner didn't use it much... 650hrs but when he did, he hit a few docks and it has some spider cracking on the super structure i'd like to fix... as well as the engine vents on the back sides and the formula eagles...

The stripes need touch up or re-paint and the guages are a little yellowed.

also when running at 4900 rpm I noticed the volts to be around 16- 17volts on the guages... is there a voltage regulator or is that in the mercathode system?

I would like to do a budget resto and am looking for some good used guages, a good cheap place to get the thunderbird emblems, engine vents, and some stainless rub rail...

Lots of stuff to do!

http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/usc-...r-p-14787.aspx

evercoat makes one also called metal 2 metal,the usc brand has been out for over 20 yrs so i use that brand..

make sure its a ''new'' can,it has a shelf life and it will get hard in the can berofe you buy it..

Not 100% sure but I don't think you want to be reving 330 hp motors that high. I think they max out at 4300RPM's. Yes there is a voltage regulator. They are located on the alternator. I would put a voltage meter on the battery and make sure your guage is reading correctly first. You can use the 3M marine filler to fill in your pits as well. Make sure you clean the crap out of the drive before you put any filler or paint on it.

Yea, it gets close to 5000 rpm... also looking for some 25p props;

it has the 23's right now and hits 65mph on the gps. how much lower should the rpms be w/ 25's?

The air cleaner cover says 42-4600rpm...

(I dont take it up that high often)

I got a 91 272 runing 454-330s and 3 blade mirage 25 pitch props, top out about 4200rpm.

Formula emblems and letters available from Searayman on Ebay.com.....here's the link

Worth spending a bit of time and money doing it up...it's a classic...just gone right through mine...looks and runs great...really glad i put some effort into it!!
