Default 88 242 question

Hi everyone
I got a 242. My question is I am in the process of building a new engine I had the 454 mag in it. I am buliding a 540 with around 645-655hp I am wondering if anyone one the board can tell me what speeds I will see out of it? It was to slow with stock power. I have a bravo drive which is going to be upgraded. I will post pics also soon

Thanks

There is a 242 on ebay for sale right now with a 502 running a small blower. The guy said it is making 600 hp and at WOT it is running right at 70 mph. So if this it true then I would guess 72-74 mph???

Again that is just a guess as I do not know the guy personally so I don't know if his boat is actually 600 hp or 70 mph....

I would agree with that low 70-75mph would be right. There were a couple on here that made over 550hp if I remember right and did just about 70. Remember that is a good speed for a hull made over 20 years ago, low x deminsion, 24 degree hull and a hook in the hull built in. This boat should ride very nice.

Built a 496 making 620HP in mine back when I had it. Top end was 71 on GPS with Bravo X upper and Imco XR lower. Had the hook taken out of the hull. Cruising speed improved but top end did not.

This is rather interresting, I know of verified speed of 61+ mph with a stock 502 mag Bravo1. I am not sure if that engine used to have 415
or 425 hp. Then you increase the horse power with 50% to 620 hp and a better drive line. The result is 10 mph???? I would have been rather disapointed.

What kind of power to reach 80 mph++`????

Chewy, I knew someone had taken the hook out of the bottom, so know real change. That is a great step up to a TG maybe some day

Alot, unfortunately these hull are notoriously slow!!!! Most of the earlier formulas are.

People say Bajas are junk but all I have owned were pretty easy to get moving with decent power.

I am buying a Formula 272 though. I feel that the lack of speed is made up for in solid quality!
