Default 525 headers

Just wondering what other people are doing about their 525 headers. I have a 2004 382 with 525's and I just took both pairs of headers out and tested them. All 4 headers leak so now what do I do.The boat spent its first 3 years in fresh water and the next 3 in salt water. Replace with CMI Gen x or try something else and see if it matches up with my tail pipes.

You could pay someone to do this and still be 1/2 the price of new headers.

CMI will repair them. You might want to give them a call. How many hours on the engines?

i just ordered{2) sets hurricanes lites from hardin http://www.hardin-marine.com/c-1348-...t-systems.aspx you can use your old tail pipes,,,also has the shift mounting nuts,,,they shoud be a direct replacement,,,cmi genx would also be a good choice,,,,if you send them back to cmi to get fixed ,,,do they say they will hold up as well as a new set,,,

We can fix them for you in CT and tell you how bad they really are. We do it all the time for people all over the country(mainly the northeast). Send me a PM if interested.

This is all really hazy but it seems that the headers were improved in '06 or '07. Mine is an '07 vintage engine. When I bought it I was told that it had the improved headers. As far as I know they still come with CMI long tube headers. That's the only way I've ever seen a stock one.

The 06 382 I looked at had 525's with the updated design. As I understand it, just look at the tube where it joins with the mounting flange at the cyl head. If the tube is straight all the way to the flange it is the old design but if it necks down about 3/8" or more before the flange it is the improved design.
Still makes me have reservations about the draining.
