Is it worth the money
I like the 1987-1990 formulas. Curved windshield and such. Is this formula worth the money?
http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/boa/2310177615.html I mean it has a trailer and "New" motor. Any suggestions? I like the power of 454. should get good speeds too! Please let me know. |
Nice boat...He will take $9k for it im sure :party-smiley-004:
My buddy has a 23' Stingray SS with a 454mpi not carb and he gets 69mph out of it with a 5 blade. That is speedo not gps. I believe if he drops back to a 3 blade he will get a honest 62-65mph out of it. That is a light boat, keep that in mind. Stingray claims the boat will do 72mph, but I dont see it. I would make sure to check the transom and stringers for softness....I had a bad deal on one of those boats, we will not get into that!! Good luck, you will not regret buying a Formula :coolcowboy: Brad |
If the boat is as stated...get it. The engine swap alone cost this guy several thousand dollars....price that MSD set up...your looking at $600~$700...plus another $400~$500 on the prop.
The 242SS is one of the best all around boats Formula ever built...big roomy cockpit...adequate cabin for overnite...great ride. I had a '86 model and loved it even with a 260. With 454 power, this rig will cruise comfortably at 45~50 all day and give you 60~65 with a twist of the wrist. Great find! |
It is a 22'er, still a nice boat. I also had a 242 at one time, nice ride.

very well worth the money however I feel that being that is a SS instead of LS thats its worth a little less, if you get around 10k pony up some more and get a 242 definetly a differance between the 2

A buddy of mine had one of them a couple years ago. It had a nice ride for the size. He had a 454 330hp in it. With 4 people in it WOT was in the 55-58 mph range.
The 454 mag carb version was 365hp not 385 as stated in the ad. 385 hp was the 454 mag MPI. So, about 60 mph sounds right. For what it is worth my buddy sold his for about $15,000 and it was pretty ugly. Pink and teal....And needed some TLC. |
you can buy this friend of mine

just a thought for you, also theres a mint 242 on BT for 16400
|
Go with the 242:evilb:
Trust me when I say this, and more than likely I am not the only one....Spend it now, or spend it later, it makes no difference :lolhit: Go look at all options and then make your decision. Dont let $3-$5k make your mind up. If you spring for saving the money today, I will almost bet you will spend it on the boat later. Do it right the first time.:drink: Just my theory:coolcowboy: Brad |
Looks like its on ebay too....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-...#ht_500wt_1095 I like how the SS seats more in the cockpit area. Plus 4 hours on a motor.... |
I like it! New motor, and clean.Seems like a good way to get of the docks for maybe under 10k.

|

Get the 242 listed above. Its a much better boat than that 223. You'll be happier in the end.

That red/black boat for $11k is pretty nice, especially if the price is negotiable at all. |

No offense, but I would agree that $15k is way too much for that boat. Regardless as to how nice it is, at the end of the day it is still a 23 year old, 22' teal boat. Mint I would tend to think it would bring $8-11k max.
