Diesels (Volvo Penta) are strictly through-hub. Zero clatter; they are incredibly quiet; just a very mild rumble. Once you ride on a boat with them, you'll understand why 80%+ of 400SS's are ordered with them. Great fuel mileage, too - 25 gph (total) at 40 mph.
