Removing Silencer Tips on 353
We're converting to dry exhaust on my 1999 353 and can't get the original silencer tips out. I've turned 2X4's into splinters but they won't budge. Is there any trick to this? I'd hate to ruin them by bashing with a sledge. Thanks!
If we do get them out, anyone looking for 2 sets? |
been there done that.
heat as in heat gun, as in HOT. Gotta be careful though as the temp you need to soften the 5200 to budging temp is just hot enough to scorch the gel. |
Thanks. Formula just got back to me and recommended we try Debond 2000. Supposedly this loosens the 3M 5200 adhesive they used.

I made a tool using threaded rod, nuts, and a few drilled through wooden boards. Make sure to pull as close to the side of the tube as possible, since this will help bending the pipe away.
If you place it in the center there will be a lot more stress to the transom before it gives in. |
