Default Shift lever service.

I have to move my shift lever around alot to find the neutral position that allow my starter to work.

Is there a contact switch or something in their that wears or is this an adjustment issue.
I pulled the the assembly out yesterday but you can't see much without taking it apart. I don't know how it works and was going to use the boat so I didn't take it apart.
