Had a buddy blow an engine over the weekend. Need to track down a new long block. Engines still under warranty, but Merc says they are back ordered. Does anyone know where we'll be able to find one, SOON!

You might try BAM in Pompano Beach, Florida. They are an Offshoreonly.com sponser.

If we're thinking of the same person, it's not him.
I got a college buddy bought a 23 Baja Islander without an engine as a project boat a few years back. After seeing how the 383 sounded I recommended the 383 to him. So he listened.
Not sure what happened. Engine started running really ruff over the weekend. Thought it was just misfiring, thinking spark plugs, he pulled one and and water came rushing out. Long story short he's rebuilding the engine.

Hey Brian
Tell your friend to try BAM marine or Michigan Motors. They have the 383's in stock. Mine are running great. Last year I had to change the roller rocker studs, whick mercury took care of. Things happen nothing is bullet proof. See you next weekend.

Not exactly sure how it happened. I'm doing some research now seeing what I can find out, if anyone experience anything similar. He didn't give me much details as to what he was doing or how it happened. I wasn't with him either.
3-5 days for shipping then probably a week to build it. He should be back on the water in about 2 weeks.
