Default Transom Wet on 292?

I had posted a thread a while back about a leaking transom assembly. To fix it I simply put silicon around the unit until I can pull the motor and replace the seal. My main concern is a wet transom but in thinking about it, it seems impossible to get a wet transom. Doesn't formula seal the cut out where the shaft goes thru to the drive?! Seems like it would be impossible to get water on the wood. The only small amount of infiltration seems like it would come from the thru bolts as I'm sure those holes aren't sealed. Any comments?! Someone ease my mind

You should be OK, but you won't know tell you get in there and poke a screwdriver or sharp object into the holes.
