You should be faster with that kind of power...

I had a 242LS with a 390HP 502 and 40-42MPH GPS was around 3600RPM with a 22 pitch 4blade

Really?? That's really good to know.. How high do you trim your outdrive? I'm wondering it I'm not bringing the outdrive up far enough..

Is that was a 3-blade or a 4-blade??

I will be taking the boat out 1 more time before winterizing it, and hopefully I'll be able to play with it some more..

edit: just saw you said it was a 4 blade.. What was your top speed??

I would assume 70+ or what??

A guy I know in Sweden has upgraded his 242LS to a 496 HO Bravo1 1:65 prop bravo1 28 pich. Top end so far 64,8 mph GPS, not to bad. This is veryfied GPS numbers 420 hp at the prop. Allmost 100 hp more, should at least make 5 mph more???

I am going to inspect the mentioned engine wednesday or thursday

A 28 pitch prop seems like too much, I would imagine his hole shot isn't fantastic..

The Merc 502 in my 223SS fits just fine although there was some modification needed. Height is the biggest concern as I needed to cut out and reinforce the underside of the engine hatch. Wholley worth it though. My boat cruises nicely at 2600-2800 RPMs just loafing along then kablam I'm doing 65 in matter of seconds.

Default 242 Ss 502

I have a 242 SS 502. No problem with fit with Merc manifolds.
Cruises comfortably in low to mid 30's at 3200 to 3400 rpm with Mirage + 23
