Default 400 SS radar

Have factory install from 2006. Has that open array. Not sure if open array good or bad? At any rate, close range objects hard to see at 38 mph. Worthwhile modern alternatives??

How close are you talking about? If it's close enough you can look out the window! Just kidding!

The open array is better overall and typically performs better than the dome. I know Garmin has the new HD systems. I would have liked to the open array but was 75% more and I would have had to redo a bunch of stuff to clear the way.

What manufacturer do you have?

Raymarine. Being 2006, I assume not Digital.

As far as how close: objects within a few hundred yards seem hard to discern. I can see other boats miles out on the open lake, but passing close to boats in narrow channels, going around nearby fishing nets, etc., is hard, especially when I cannot tune out the competing clutter that tends to show up at close range.
