We started noticing how little the cabins changed in a two-foot-itis comparison which made me rule the 292 out of our step up plans. Plus I won't run anything smaller than 454 cid and the newer 292's just don't give enough more than my 242 does to make me want to try it. We are holding out to make a jump to 382 instead of the step up idea.

it was a good fit for us, basically a 31 with platform, a 382 is too much for us(me) and I'm man enough to admit it LOL

Go to a 311, it's just the right amount of jump from a 242. Thats what I did 8 years ago and it's been a great boat. O by the way it's for sale. Just to nice to keep no more than I get to use it. Propwash

Once you add a couple of kids for over nighting a 382 is not too much. You'll get there.
