I recently removed the Bennitt trim tabs from my Formula 292, and plan to install Mercury 280s K-Plates. I now have (4) 3/4" holes thru the transom and (24) small screw holes roughly 1" deep. What would I expect to pay a fiberglass shop to completely fill the holes and refinish the transom to like new condition. OR, is this a fairly simple task that I could handle myself?? Any help would be appreciated...thanks.........dave

It is a fairly easy repair if you know anything about auto body repairs. Can you spray gelcoat? Buy a pint of gel from Formula so the color will match. I think I paid around $30 for a pint from my dealer. Once you get the gel I can walk you through the repairs. The 280 tabs will cover almost all the small holes, so they just need to be filled and no gelcoat applied. If you have the 2003 Powerboat magazine article on installing 280 tabs on a Fastech it makes the complete job much easier. Jeff Wurl

get yourself some dowel rods and some West systems 105 resin & 207 slow hardner and run the drill back thru the holes to clean them up and coat the hole with the west systems and the dowel rods also and tap them in so there 3/16 below surfaces on both sides of transom so you can cover with a layer of gel coat ..its a very easy job
Does this sound like what you did, I think I remember your post from last year, but can't find it. I know there is a post on OSO detailing the project.
Once again, thanks for the help.........dave
