Do these drives really need the vent tube in the cavition plates?

If I were fortunate enough to be in a position to have this boat built for me, I would like to have the option. I doubt it will need vent tubes, but it would be easy enough to make some polished block off plugs. I did see the Ilmor 400 SS at the factory last summer and these are some huge props to get turning ...
