I believe the 402 is the largest of the Formula Performance line built. i'm not sure how it compares to the newer style 419 but it is certainly the largest of the Classic "Flat Glass" Formulas.

Chris...give us some more details on your 402...power, performance, handling, etc.

Hi sprnk58, The 402's got 425hp's (the previous owner swapped out the original 420's) I just finished rebuilding the top end of one of the engines and getting ready to start on the other. When I bought it top speed was 40mph now 50 mph I think I should be upper 50's once engines are done I'm keeping them stock at this point mainly be cause I still have about three years of work on the boat, electrical is mostly done, going to gut and redo the cabin next year then the cockpit and appearance issues after that, then maybe a little more horsepower. It is without a doubt the smoothest riding boat I have ever been in, loooong nose and very heavy it cuts waves great. Cabin is huge for a performance style boat. Looking forward to finally getting my butt out of the engine compartment and into the drivers seat a little more this summer.

You sound like you are on the same path I am on with my 255. I am about 95% complete with power and propulsion issues and moving into the re-work of the cockpit and cabin. I finally got it where it is 100% reliable for long offshore runs....I am starting to enjoy the fruits of my labor..LOL

I would like to have a F-302 sometime in the future...always admired that model and the ride...I can only imagine how a 402 rides with 10' more nose out front.

Just thinking out loud...I wonder how a 402 would perform with a pair of High Torque Diesels running thru a pair of Volvo Duo-Prop drives designed for the torque? My business partner has a pair of Volvo D6-330/DP's in a 10,000# Sea Ray 29' Amberjack Cruiser that cruises 40-45 all day and tops out at 50. At a cruise he gets 1.5 MPG that gives him a range of 400 miles with 300 gallons. There is a 35' Cigarette down here with twin 3208 420 HP Caterpillars with Bravo III's that runs 60. I have seen it but not run it. The owner told me it's as quick out of the hole and up to about 50 as any fast gasoline Cigarettes. The difference is he can run 300 miles on a fuel fill!!!

Just brainstorming...post some pics when you can.

I know of an '82 302 that came from the factory with small blocks and Arnesons. Would love to get the boat but a lack of storage and a knife-wielding wife have deterred me from pursuing it.
