Formula 40ss
I have been looking at the 40ss on line. I really like this boat. I know a few people on this sight have them. I really would like some input about this boat. Good an Bad. Thanks in advance for the help. Artie Ps. I'm looking at used boats.

Pros - Huge cockpit, tons of room. Cabin is nice sized as well, aft cabin is great. Build quality is very high throughout boat.
Cons - heavy boat. Getting over 45mph takes serious power (525's) and gas money. Tough to store (need semi door on bldg) & tow. AC is a little underpowered, so is fridge. Overall we LOVE our Four Hundee. |
Thanks. First I've heard about fridg an a/c. Thanks for the feedback. Artie

Great boat with lots of room and sporty styling. Hard to find a boat in its length group that can cruise near 40, look/and sound fast, with 6 foot cabin head room and a full size fridge. Build quality is great. Only recomendation for Formula is to clean up and support their wiring runs so that they look and function at a higher level to match the rest of the boat. Formula also has excellent customer service and will answer any issues pertaining to their boats. Have no issues with fridge or AC. Must be specific to the other posters boat. AC can keep the cabin at 60 on a 90 degree day. How much colder do you need it?

I agree with all that's been said although at some point they must have fixed the A/C and fridge. Ours work great. We love the huge cockpit and the cabin is more than big enough for long weekend stays. The boat looks great, handles great, is well built and (with 525s) will top 60 without breaking a sweat.

Artie,
I'm thinking you live on the river, are you going to keep it on a lift at the house? One thing that scares me away from the big Formula SS Cruisers is what to do with them if you have to pull it out for a flood or a hurricane. Gonna need to borrow a hell of a tow vehicle to do that plus thats a big ass boat to pull around on Highway 22 or 16. |
Never any issue with me ac or fridge, and at Havasu it was over 100
fly out to california sometime and ill take you for a ride Dan |

Maybe you need a freon charge or service? |
I posted this same comment in the general section thread as well.....
I'm starting to look now too took 5 years to find my exact desired 336 ( 1 of 5 built with 525sc's in 95.) my perfect formula is a 400ss ( or maybe 370) with blue motors and surface drives. I can trade off some speed for the coolness of the rooster tail. and the marina life seems intriguing to me. would be a fun project to convert to arnesons, but afraid the cost will be prohibitive...... there is a 400ss in my town for sale. 600 hrs on 500hp's. Would one be concerned about that??? scares me a little. as the load is constantly big with this boat..... doubt they fished with it to get those hours LOL Ramb |
