Wow, that stinks. I could have used this deal about 5 or 6 months ago when I started digging into mine. Still, I wonder about getting it for the seats and parts....
Arghhhh!!!!!!!
Man, mine has crappy bottom paint on it also and I am still doing glass work inside the cabin. Finishing up the repaired stringers and new bulk head. I might have to go look at this. Just got one motor bolted into mine and finished aligning it today. Can't believe the timing on this.
Heck, I almost have the used parts to put the second one together.
Going to be within a hour of Grand Haven Saturday, might have to go look at it.

Got an email back from the gentleman, seems very open and nice.
Boat was stolen back in 2004 in Detroit, stripped and then left on the side of the road in Ohio. It has been like that ever since. An insurance adjuster bought it to restore (he had done other ones I guess) and never did.
Says the boat is very clean, but will need to be wet sanded and buffed out.
Says the transom and stringers seem solid. The rear bulk head has a crack with some rot. Rot is not through, but not solid like new he says.
Vinyl: the hatch cover is shot and needs to be redone/rebuilt, only the glass part is good. The bolsters and rear bench are "decent for an 86" but there are some tears in it. I guess it says alot that "they took everything of value" but left the bolsters.
Haven't seen pics, he is going to send me some later.
Like I said, I am an hour away from him next weekend, may be able to go look at it.

Bulkhead

this one worries me. Mine had some slight rot to it where the bulk head had gotten wet, but wasn't cracked. When I got into it, it was a project. Water soaked through bulkhead to the front stringers. Center stringer of course is open down the middle, so who knows on that. but if it got wet enough and long enough to rot and crack, that is worriesome.

It is so hard to tell on vinyl unless you see it in person. I know it can be refurbished, but tears like this are not possible to Patch or refinish. And bolsters are not cheap for have done.

Boy that engine compartment is stripped. Even the trim pumps and trim tab pumps are gone. Brackets for the throttle and shifter linkage is gone. Only thing left is the bilge blowers, the standard bilge pump, and the four thru hull fittings with flappers. Oh, and the large power cables, copper must have been cheaper back then! I wonder if the engine connectors are still on the wire harness? Didn't see them.

So, what do people think something like this is worth? The interior is stock and looks decent for an 86, but that is not saying much. No one buys a 27' boat for the cabin space or an 86 for the original interior.
Dash panel is also ripped out so all the gauges are gone and wires are ???? Old style shifters, even the compass was taken. The side vinyl trim in the cockpit is torn in some places as well. All stereo stuff gone. No battery holders. Hull outside looks decent, but that is compared to my 86 which was in salt water and bottom painted, so my standard of comparison is pretty low.
Any ideas?
I recall a couple of formulas, at least one very nice 272, that was parted out and the hulls basically scrapped because they were not worth anything once stripped. Seems sad, but that is the case.

$500 cash...tops.
If it was close...I would consider it. I have everything in extra SBC engines and drive wise to build it out. The rest of the stuff could be shopped and put together for about $2k. You still have to get wheels under it which is at least another $2K for anything reliable.
Then I ask myself...what do I have when I'm done?...a $6k~$8K investment into something I might sell for $5~$6k in this market if I'm lucky.
It might be fun for someone that needs a project...but Brian...you and I still have projects that we need to complete!!!

I would not pay anything for it. If he would just sell the bolsters then I may pay a couple hundred (like 300) for them but that would be about it and that is only if they function properly.

Yeah, don't think I am going to waste about 3 hours of my vacation, 2 of it driving, and $30 in gas to go look at this thing. I will be back up there with more time in July and will be visiting other locations much closer then.
Think it will still be available? Ha ha.
