If that 272 was closer and it wouldn't cost me $4K to get it home I would buy it for myself.

Your in my old stomping grounds, grew up in Warren Michigan and moved out to Shelby before moving to go to college. Spent some time on ole Clair, you do not want an 18' boat for out there. Seen it get very rough quickly, shallow so it gets choppy. I would be looking at a 242SS or 272 for your situation.

yeah, 24' as a minimum. Keep in mind that is an old school 24', no molded on swim platform. If molded swim platform, make sure it is a 26'. The 272 really is not a big boat. I sit in mine and it seems small.

Also call the guy, maybe he would be interested in a trade to include what you are selling. Might need to sell the boat to get a new set of wheels, you never know.

National Marine in Peoria Heights has a 242 listed for $18000. It's a friend of mines boat. I suspect that's a pretty negotiable price. I can check when I get into town. They currently have a 330ss. The 242 looks perfect. Wish I could tell you more but I don't remember ever being on it. Could be worth a call....309-688-5513.

A 242 was on my short list, but I really wanted something a little bigger. Plus all the 242's I found seemed really over priced, so I went with the 272. Glad I do not have anything smaller now, the 272 seems pretty small.

What kind of gas miliage would you expect out of that 272 cruising.

about 9 - 10 mpg at 60 to 70 mph. Not positive, but my Suburban with the 8.1L gets 8 to 8.2 pulling the 31' travel trailer at 10,000lbs, so a little better than that I suppose.

Now, when it is in the water, I do not want to think about that! YIKES! :eekdrop:

I have no idea, have seen numbers all of the place. But since this the internet, let me throw out some numbers as if they are factual to satisfy my ego, we will see if I am even close.

WOT will be in the 1.5 to 1.8 mpg range, or 35 to 40 gallons per hour.

Cruising will be in the 35 to 40 mph range and will run from 1.8 to 2.4 mpg depending on the sweet spot, so 15 to 23 gph.

Lets get someone with some real information here and see what they say :lolhit:
