Formula Brochures and Performance Results
I know that you can go to the Formula website and download all the old brochures, but the performance data is not in these.
I have heard people discuss the performance data before (xxx model boat ran xxx-xxx mph with xxx prop), but don't know where to find it. If anyone has these reports or knows where there are I would be interested in seeing them for 1986 or any of the mid to late 80's years. Thanks |

Formula as I see it does not build any pure performance boats. Probably this may be why these results are not openly published. My 382 is listed with State Farm as a Performance Cruiser. Thats a good thing when It comes to underwriting and premium dollars. When I was shopping for a boat a 38' fountain was 4 times the premium. for the same dollar value. Thank you Formula! Great boat, plenty fast enough 1400 hp (enough said), comfy, solid, Where else can you call and get a trim part for a ten year old boat from a mfg thats still around !

Formula used to publish a pamphlet called Specifications and Performance Guide. I have one from 1990. Here are the pages for the 311 and 357.

Carbiz,
Do you happen to know if the "350 mag perf" was the 300 horse tempest motor? In the 206, I thought the 270 horse mag would run close to 57, but the '87 results only lists 54. I hit 64.5 on gps with my modified 350 vortec this past weekend in my 206 with a 23 laser II at 5200 or so. |
Here is the 292 page per endeavour32's request

Yeah, wasen't sure when the 320 EFI came out (87 or 88), I knew they had a carb version called the tempest previous to the EFI and was rated at 300 horse.
At anyrate, yeah that motor pushes that boat really well and the hull takes it no problem. I run consistently at 63gps and have seen 66 with a little tale wind. Now I just have to build 2 of them and throw them in a 272 and I'll be pretty set for where I want to be!!! |
Cool info, anyone got anything concerning the 303?
|
Thanks for posting the 292 data!

MPG difference
OK, this strikes me as odd. The 311 sheet and the 303 sheet are both Sr1's and both have twin 454 mags bravo's (365hp).
The 311 is 3" narrower but 150 lbs heavier and 2' 9" longer with the swim platform. I would have thought the 303 would have gotten better "milage", but the numbers posted by formula do not show that. Best for the 311 is 2.1 mpg at 28 mph at 2500 rpm. The 303 was only 1.7 mpg. The 311 was faster and more fuel efficient than a boat almost 3' shorter? Did they just screw that boat up? |

i didn't realize the 311 was 8'0 wide

A dealer gave me a 2009 book if any one needs data from that year.
Anyone know what year the factory started publicizing this data? |

The 320 EFI was available as a special order in '86...I had twin 320 EFI's in a '86 272 LS with Alpha SS drives. Built in the Miami Plant summer of '86. The boat ran 75 speedo with 23" cleavers at 5800~6000 RPM. it would run an easy 60 at 4500.

Grab the report that shows the data for the 303 with blackhawks. I think that will really surprise you. The 303 has a LOT of rocker in the hull so when it comes to shorter/surface piercing drives with the stock motors you should see a bit of improvement. Come to think of it anyone have anything on the the 302 402 kaama reports or the 303 blackhawk data?

You nailed it, from what ive learned over the years is the 303 with 502/hawks is a 80 mph boat, I got the 502's just not the hawks, 1.36 bravo's and my best so far is 76,

Thanks J-team......

I just picked up an 86 F302 SR1. Getting all dialed in at Wilkes Marine in Orange County, CA. Can't wait to get it out on the water. Any performance info on the 302? Stock 454, TRS and 3 blade 24 pitch that I will probably change to 4 blade.
|
Deepv29 I had a 85 302sr1 all stock I used a Hydromotive Terminator 24 pitch 4 blades , loved the props it was a whole different boat, jumped out of the water, handled better 62 on gps

Does anyone have the performance sheet for the 1988 242LS?
|
For the newer stuff, boattest.com has a lot of data. All you have to do is Register your email and you get all specs and data from the tests they perform. I found it very helpful.
|
x2. That would be awesome to see the factory specs. Many of the older boats have switched hands a time or two by now and some upgrades along they way or engines getting tired may have slowed them down. The factory specs gives you a clear picture of where it needs to be. Thanks for digging these up!

Fischan did you mean to post that reply?
I am still looking for the 1988 242LS performance specs.?

In response to the 1986 or 1987 specs shown at the beginning of this thread. When you see an F206, F233, or F242LS with the 350 mag and "perf" designation, it does not indicate a different engine. In 1987,1988,and1989 there was a performance package option on single engine boats. It was an upgrade to a 21" cleaver prop, and most importantly, a 2" higher X dimension when the drive is rigged into the boat at the factory. Made a big difference on my 1987 F206LS. In 1987, the factory would not install any bigger engine than the 350 mag, 270 HP in an F206. I'm not sure how they handled the F233 and F242. It wasn't until 1988 or 1989 that they allowed the 320 EFI to be installed in an F206. I went to the factory in the fall of 1986 to beg them for a big block or at least the 320EFI or Tempest in my factory ordered 1987 F206. No dice, product liability concerns. Great factory tour though. Cool to see the crated KAAMA engine packages sitting in the cage along the outside of the assembly floor. My F206 was delivered in February 1987 with a 350 mag and performance package.
