This one caught my eye as a potential diamond in the rough. If it just needs to be cleaned up and mechanicals are good..get a solid trailer under it for 2-5 grand I think you would be doing okay and have a RARE paint scheme

ya, meant to post that one also

88242LS 09-24-2012 03:34 PM

that one appears to be 10/15 hours away from being nice, cant really tell for sure but appears to be rip free in interior

88242LS 09-24-2012 03:35 PM

wonder how many hours

cuposterchild 09-24-2012 03:38 PM

Was curious about the boat but not enough to actually call. I gotta think though if it is all there and just MAJOR cleaning and detailing to get it back to mint if the mechanicals are all good and hours were respectable and a trailer could be had cheap it should be solid pickup. Hours and freshwater use and condition of cabin/covers/upholster etc would be key

1MOSES1 09-25-2012 11:26 AM

in my opinion project boats look good on paper, but when you start digging into them and realize the money it will take to restore...might be better off with buying a mint turn key ready boat.

just my opinion.

manual labor and monetary investments are two totally different topics. i stand by my comment. many of these project boats turn out to be money pits (replacement parts) rather than deals.

for the record, i do my own work (motors come out in a week or two). all repairs/fixes have been performed by me and my brother.

NICE! Good luck and check it over REALLY well at that price point. Hope it works out for you looked like a good deal

88242LS 09-27-2012 06:47 PM

Keep us posted, good luck

T-RAV 09-28-2012 01:03 AM

Well I'm still boatless. It had a lot more corrision and rust than the pictures showed. Also had some horrible gelcoat repair work. Although it was priced accordingly I felt that the unknowns behind the rust/corrision would add up real fast and become a bigger project than I want to deal with to make it acceptable for me.

88242LS 09-28-2012 05:41 AM

that sucks, i will keep a eye out and post when i c them,

That is one reason I hate to even go look at stuff. You drive all that way and that is definately information they could have given you by picture or conversation. Instead you drive for at least 16 hours to find out. Anyone who would let you drive that far knowing they did not disclose all the information I would not trust anything. That in addition to the fact that they are selling a boat! :lolhit:

Interesting, i spoke to the owner, though not buying , the nose cones caught my eye...guy claims 65 mph gps stock non mags w/ no chine walking on high trim...3 mph more than my setup...he didn't know what props were on it -claims he never looked and remains on lift...

diverkr 09-28-2012 02:03 PM

I saw that boat at my shop when I was in Orange Beach in January. It is a clone of my boat. I didn't examine it well, but I could tell it was no where close to being as nice as mine. I wanted to say something but I guess the price reflects the condition!

T-RAV 09-28-2012 05:38 PM

Ya something's pictures just don't show. I don't put any faith into pictures anymore, I would rather go see it in person and put my hands and eyes on it. That's the only way you know. I also pulled the dip stick on the starboard motor and had rust chunks on it. Like the pan was rusting out, it wasnt shiny like it was a internal issue. I also think the motors would have needed to be pulled so the transom ass. Could come off to be blasted and painted, then everything else you do why they are out, starters, couplers, etc. Even at the price point it still wouldn't be worth it. IMHO, but thats me.

boat looks questionable at that price with those hours...usually a 2005 with only 100 hours is in the 60k area...and thats low end.

Pretty sure there is money being made or was made on this boat. If it is one of the two that I am thinking of that had similar paint they could have been had either a owner or two ago in the 40s. Not sure if it was the 292 that came out of my area from Aqua-mania or the one that was out in the midwest area

cuposterchild 10-04-2012 11:47 AM

For what its worth I am curious about where the market is going to go on these boats. I am really thinking the 292 is going to go a similar path of the 271 from a demand perspective. There is going to be a sweet spot of time where there will be no used 292s available because Formula just wasn't making any and yet there will be used ones that are just old enough to still get financing and it was the smallest Formula you could get. May drive the price or hold it up a little bit on the 2007-2010 boats I don't have a crystal ball but will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Ok guys so i am not trying to high jack this thread but I have been watching it and every ones comments on boat listings that are being posted and I am curious as to what everyone's opinions are as to what mine is worth.

Boat is a 2002 292 fastec with world champion graphics.
I bought this boat when it was barely 2 years old and have religiously changed all oil and drive fluids every 25 hrs. Every spring, this boat gets new impellers, plugs, cap and rotors, fuel filters, etc. It also gets waxed twice a year and was just buffed from one end to another top to bottom by local and very reputable detailer.
Twin 350 mags and I will bring boat home tonight to plug scanner in and verify actual ECM hours as I know the gauges are off and show approx 12 more hours than ECM's which puts them at approx 730 hours.
Bravo one drives with halo drive showers, standard trim tabs, bravo one 28P 4 blade props.
1200 watt stereo with 12" sub in cockpit and 6 speakers, Ipod hook up.
Cockpit carpet, cockpit cover and full mooring cover from Carrie covers. ( full cover is the heavier canvas style from them not the light poker run one)
Standard porta potti with pump out at rear
transom shower and all of Formulas standard features.
Boat sits on a brand new 2012 triple axle All American aluminum trailer with aluminum wheels, good year tires, torsion axles, brakerite electric over hydraulic brakes, matching spare complete with packed hub and E axle kit.

Here are some pics and as I said, I will be bring it home from the covered storage yard where it stays during the week and doing the fluid and filter changes tomorrow and will verify ECM hours.

On a scale of 1-10, everyone that sees our boat says its a solid 8. Yes it has a couple minor scratches from dock rash but from a 5' distance you cannot even see them. They are just deep enough not to be buffed out but yet cannot see from a few feet away.

We also just replaced all the head rest foam in the sun pad with factory original pieces from Formula.

We looked into trading this in last year but the deal with the boat we were looking at fell through which is why we did not go through with it.
We are moving on to another boat and I would rather sell ours than trade it in to try and get a little more money in my pocket as any one would do.

I am thinking I would like to get around 45-49K based on what I have seen for sale out there and some of your comments but I will consider reasonable offers as well.

Right now the high trade # we just recieved again is at 39K.

I would like honest opinions on this as we are moving on one way or the other and since some of you are in the market for a 292, I might as well throw mine in the mix.

Here are some pics and I can get more if needed which I need to take more of the trailer since i only have the one of it on the new trailer and that was before it was redone to fit the boat properly.

Let me know

diverkr 10-04-2012 06:20 PM

Just to give you some info on the value of your boat. I bought my 2002 292 in 2010 for less then $49k. I have the 6.2s, hyd steering, and a 2006 aluminum triple axle trailer, and it had only 105 hours. I would consider my boat a 9 out of 10. No gel or paint damage, interior is perfect, full cover, and meticulously maintained.

I think $39k is a fair price for the hours, 350s, and no hyd steering. Just my humble opinion.

Expensive Date 10-04-2012 07:51 PM

Interest and prices have gone up for the 292s lately. But you are probably a little high because of the hours. To give you a reference I got offered 48k on a trade for my 06 with 6.2s hyd. steering and 2011 Manning trailer mine has 354 hrs.

i tend to agree with expensive date. the 3 things that hurt the value of your boat are:

1. 350's (6.2's are preffered)
2. lack of hyd steering (5k add on if someone should buy your boat)
3. hours (you have quite a few)

none of these should prevent you from selling but expect less than 40k. just my opinion.

debcod2 10-05-2012 07:05 AM

I appreciate the comments and yes I know that no hydraulic steering hurts it a bit and honestly dont know why Formula just didnt have that as standard for these boats since they can run 68-70mph.

As for the hours, it looks like i use my boat the most out of everyone but as of 8-19-11 when I plugged the scanner in, 428 of those hours were under 750 rpm. We had alot of long no wake zones when we lived in northern IL.

I am going to plug the scanner back in today to get current readings

The guys are right on most points, but your graphics and colors are very desirable and this will help your sale over a "run of the mill" scheme. Price accordingly...don't match other deals or you will be throwing away those extra dollars. You may have to hold out for the right buyer!
I wish those "World Champion" graphics were on my Scorpion 292!!! :evilb:

Why are those graphics desireable? Personally, I am not a fan. There are way too many boats with branding on every possible surface.
