I have shore power but no generator, I was wondering if I could put a inverter generator in my boat and plug the shore power into it.

I am only powering fridge, a fan , and possibly the battery charger.

by inverter generator do you mean like a honda? Or an actual inverter to run off batteries? You cannot plug an inverter into the ships 12v and then plug the shore power cord into it or it will trip the Polarity safety... been there tried that

If you use a portable generator, do not use or store it in the bilge since it is not spark arrested or vapor protected. I would place it on the swim platform.

If all you are trying to run is a fridge and a fan you shouldn't need a generator... With good batteries, I can run my fridge and cabin fan for over a week. I have put the boat in the barn and forgot to plug it in and the next weekend it started right up after running both the fridge and the fan all week.

A Honda 2000 on the swim platform plugged into the 110V shorepower system will run a frig, fan, bat charger, etc for a long time.....I used one to run my AC and frig for overnighters.

I'm pretty sure the shower power is wired to be a 220v , can i Just plug a 110v source into it and just have less voltage without messing with anything?

Shore power should be 110V... I have a twist lock adapeter that converts a 30A shore power cord to a regular 110V outlet. Do not plug it into a 220V source or you will have a mess!

Are you sure this guy doesn't have some kind of elaborate 220v shower/hot tub in his boat? He keeps saying shower power

I agree I have never seen 220v at the dock, however a shore power connector does look similar to a few styles of 220v extension cords and such, however it is 110v
