89 272 sr1 hull
 

I ended up buying back my old 272, I will be selling the hull without power, drives. But will sell with drives or without gimbles pretty much anyway you could want it I can work out.

It has the newport #1 colors and is in excellent condition. The deck paint is a little faded but the hull is in very good shape, as is the cockpit and cabin. Has 280 kplanes, clean bravo gimbles, bilge all redone.

I do not want to part out the boat completely yet. I'd rather leave the hull as complete as possible. Pm or email me for pics

so what is the deal with it being a big block boat if the engines are not in it? Won't small blocks just drop right into this thing or did they do the stringers differently for BBC hulls?

I hate it when deals like this come up and I am this far and $$$ deep into mine.

I don't know the if there are any differences in the big block vs small block boats but small blocks will drop right in and bolt right up.

Same everything!!...and I know the 800 horsepower I have will move it...with the weight savings it might even run close to what it did with the 500's.

How did it run with those motors in it?

Theyre not 500s, they are 454's with 781 oval port heads, weiand intakes and hp500 carbs and flame arresters. I don't think anyone swapped the cams to take advantage of the better heads.

Just talked to a buddy of mine that did a small block to big block swap in a 272, no difference in the boat, just drill 2 more holes for the bravo transom assembly and bolt the motors in.

did he do offsets for the big blocks wider exhaust or redo holes in transom?

The exhaust is angled in on all the big block boats I've seen anyway

I'd expect it to run 65-69 with the better breathing 330's????

Never ran it hard for long, or with a gps. It might who knows??

So what's the money on the hull or hull + trailer??? John finish your 255!!! It has like 3x the freeboard :lolhit:

OK, so the swap shop thread had a price shown of $5,500.

what was/is slated to be removed from the boat at this price point? I understand there is no trailer associated with it, just the part that floats.

Took a deposit on it. Guy will be here tomorrow. If all goes well (as it should) it is sold and heading south.

Thank goodness! I was seriously considering coming out with the trailer and picking this up at that price. Heck of a deal with the bravos on the back of it. Now back to my 86 LS build......

That's the plan. Complete boat $8500. Be hard pressed to find a better deal.

I pm'd him within the first couple days of his thread and he insisted on a small block boat. I told him same as everyone else $8500 come get it or $5500 and put your own small blocks in. Part I don't get is he still says there selling for $20,000!!!! Hello????? Is anybody home???? Here's a real nice one that needs about a weekends worth of work to be about perfect for $8500!!!! Lol oh well. Johns buddy will be happy with it I'm sure. Wish it was this nice or cheap the first time I bought it!!!!!

Red...like I told you...if he had not beaten me to the punch by hours...I would have been there yesterday. But hey... there is always another deal and having a friend is worth more to me than the deal if you know what I mean. I will end up in the middle of this any way some how...it's all working out for the best.

Lol cuz I price them right! A very happy new owner just went for his first ride in 50* temps. Not sure if his face froze from the temperature or he was that happy with the boat!

Wow, that is a deal. I was wondering if I could have bought it complete for close to $10k. $8,500 is a great deal.

But already having a 272, I really should be watching for a larger boat to make a long term restoration out of. Something with a LARGE cockpit. Like a Scarab III. Saw a Baja one time that had four bolsters and a rear bench, that would give some room to work with. My first exposure to offshore boats was an early 80's scarab that was based in South Haven, MI. It was a 377 scarab but did not have the stagger engines so the cockpit was huge! found a pic online of basically the same thing as if a scarab and sunsport had breeded! that or a CC with egg beaters.....

I should start a thread in old school section asking about boats like this but still based on the standard go fast hull of 8' beam. I doubt my wife and I will ever get out of being foster parents, so I never know how many I will have in the house.

HA!!! this made me laugh! Fred is who I bought my boat from in NJ last fall. that add is way old, I think it was gone before I contacted him about my 272 LS. Not sure why it is still up.

Where were these made in the 80's? As of now, I live within an hour of the factory in Indiana. Drove by it, never stopped before though...... :lolhit:
