LOL! Hahahahaha. Not my first choice anyway. I actually spoke with the owner of that boat a few weeks ago. It sounds like a nice peice. Owner seemed to be a down to earth guy as well.

Also, thanks to budd for the heads up.

LOL...Gee, I wonder why? Evidently Formula was proud of it too, back in '89! Do YOU have the matching striped polo shirt that studley is wearing in the video? hahaha...just messing with ya.
It is pretty cool to see your boat in their original video! Thanks for sharing it.

OK....the color is starting to grow on me....a little.

search update

My favorite color combo on these 272's is the red Imron painted hull and graphics from the 1987 model year. As luck would have I located one in northern IL for sale. After a lengthy phone call with the seller I ran up to check it out. Unfortunately, I returned again empty handed.
Both drives wearing along with I believe it would be the gimbal ring from side to side play. Sea water inlet hoses from drive up through gimbal area cracked and actually leaking. About 10 foot long and 2 inches wide area of the bow at the keel worn completely through and into the glass from beaching the boat. Bulkhead behind fuel tank from center stringer to port stringer was delaminated and glass broken through exposing wood (seller said he was "checking with a ball pein hammer")...ooof....bulkhead wood was soft. Both motors were quite wet with oil on the bottoms (pan areas). Deck stripes were worn through from buffing and or sun fading. Their were also a lot of petty things that really needed correcting as well.
A little too much for me to mess with anyway. So, the search continues. It's got to be "out there" I know it.

Yeah that sounds right... it's like a burgundy. Cabin cushions are also burgundy. Darker red, white and black accents on gray cockpit upholstery. It's a rich combination.
I'll try my hand at uploading a pic, just for grins.

I believe I will. I Have enjoyed looking...discouraging at times, but still an interesting process. I have learned that some folks think they have floating gold on the trailer...AND peoples idea of excellent condition is NOT the same from one to another. It is also easy to become impatient when you know what you want and haven't found it yet. But hey, it's winter now, the motorcycles are tucked away and this is a good way to spend it- looking for that special boat I wished for at 17 back in '87.
Additionally, I'm diggin' the conversations here on OSO with like minded folks....

just playing devils advocate here...

there are also buyers out there that do a lot of tire kicking and dont understand the value of used boats. want everything in like new condition but arent willing to pay for it... just keep that in mind.

Those are called "strokers". The internet is full of them.

The seller of the most recent boat I looked at wanted $25k for his boat. A premium for that boat based on what I'm told right here on this forum. Should be $14k-$18K ish? After a 2 hour detailed phone conversation with the seller and agreeing on a (slightly) lower than asking figure, I drove 360 miles and spent a couple hundred in fuel to find a boat not as described needing a great deal of work. Some of which the seller was not even aware of. So, expecting to see a much nicer boat (as described) and because the colors and amenities were right for me, I expected to pay the premium asked by the seller...and I was fine with that.

This is after a similar circumstance a month earlier where I drove from Cleveland, OH. to Milwaukee WI. for another 272 and returned empty handed as well.

A couple of pricey road trips just to kick tires.... fully expected to return with a boat on both occasions.

25 year old anything is going to show signs of age and use. Care and maintenance reduces the negative affects of both. I am a realistic guy but when you're told one thing and it turns out to be quite the contrary in person, one can hold only the seller responsible for the lack of....forthcoming. I now know who's getn' stroked....

Fussy? Yes. Cheap? No.

I've been out of commission with the flu this past week and haven't been on here. I just checked this link and it's saying the listing is expired. I would've liked to have seen this one. The St. Louis boat is really clean but I'm just not a pink kinda guy.... Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to do another nationwide Craigslist search and see if the white one pops up again.
