Is it out there?
....still looking for the right 272 SR1. 87-90, solid, well cared for and maintained boat with amenities and the right colors. I AM FUSSY, may be too fussy at times but that's me.
I just returned to Cleveland from WI, about an hour north of Milwaukee . A fella insisted his boat was as close to flawless as I would ever find. Red Gray Black and White (sharp!). Pictures looked great but pictures hide a lot and I know this from many years of buying from internet listings. So I ask specific questions about certain things I see, or don't see, in the pics. We correspond for a week prior discussing specific items and areas on the boat. I arrive about 9 hours and 550 miles from home to find A boat that has been inaccurately described, to say the least. I won't bore with all the details but when you are selling something that has been repainted and the newer paint is peeling/flaking around the edges and it's full of fish eyes and dirt, you probably should disclose that to your potential buyer. It was an obvious repaint and I was never told, or could see from the pics, that it had been repainted. My visit went down hill from there. That was just one of many, many misrepresentations on that boat. I also agreed to pay a premium for his boat provided his description was accurate and I was satisfied with the sea trial. Seller says he is very fussy also.....
Anyway, moving on now. I'm still in the market. At the advice of many experienced Formula owners on OSO I will consider big motors....and small as well. Must be solid without needing bulkhead or stringer work. I'm really not a fan of gray vinyl that looks yellow ,faded, ripped or cracked. Also not big on dock rash and severe paint fade. The more canvas the better, a nice trailer is a plus, shore power, fridge, battery charger, dual batteries etc. is all great, reliability is paramount, and I am Fussy (NICE BOAT).
Most of the above, if at issue, can be corrected when discussing money.
The right boat is out there I am sure...just simply need to find it. The Formula family here on OSO continues to provide great info to all who in inquire. So, I'm throwing this "out there" in hopes of finding the right one. Thank you.
