We were in Sanibel Island FL. a few years back and saw a bunch of Formulas there for the photo shoot.

The tubes on the cavitation plates on the 382 are to provide air to the props when getting up on plane, so the engines can spool up into their power band. That boat is the fourth 382 powered by 725 Ilmor/Indy package. The fifth one will be underway soon, as will the third 725-powered 400SS. Formula has quickly become Ilmor's #1 customer.

The photos and videos are shot in the area of Bimini Island, not far off of the Ft. Lauderdale coast.

YES! 25% off at the moment!!!

Most of the time Formula goes over to Bimini for catalog and video shoots. Very little boat traffic and pristine clear water. It's about 50 miles out of Ft. Lauderdale and 45 miles 90* true out of Haulover Cut in Miami. They will truck a load of boats down, put in down here and caravan over.

Back in the '80s Hi-Lift Marina was one of the largest Formula dealers in the country. I used to do all of their Fire Protection work and John and Bob Ellis, the dealership owners would go over with the Factory people. It was easier then because the Miami Plant was about 5 miles down the road from Hi-Lift so it was a natural spot to put the catalog boats in the water to cross over to Bimini.

I don't know how they handle it now but back in the day, Formula would sell the catalog boats out the "back door" ( at a huge discount) as "Demo" boats. I bought my first Formula that way. If you look at the '77 Formula Catalog online at the "Vintage Formula" section, the little blue F-18 was my boat. That was the boat that started my addiction to Formulas.

I paid $6000 for mine with a steel galvanized trailer. The MSRP for a F-18 with a 188 MerCruiser I/O was about $11,500 and since it was never registered or titled it was a "new" boat with a full factory warranty. I think it had 6 hours on it when I took delivery.

It would be worth a call to find out what they do now with the "demo" boats.

There were some unbelievable prices at the Miami show in 11, and 12. I wonder if that is where some demos wind up. One of the poker run 382's that has been floating around for sale sold at the Miami show and it is on the cover of the brochure with 700's NXT package.

DING...ding...ding...effin DING!!! A lot cheaper to store them here and sell them at the show than haul them back to Indiana.
