would this sell? 1998 271 fastech w/o power

i have a 98 271 fastech, where the engine had an issue late last year, so i pulled it and took it to a shop. I was hoping for around $3,000 or so to fix it as it only had 80 hours on it. Well its looking to be about $8500 to fix it, which is not in my budget, so before i explore other options, looking to see if anyone would be interested in it? or if i should drop a used 502 in it, call it a day and sell it. w/o power looking to get around 22k for it. Brand new cabin upholstery (thread is in this forum) new sunpad vinyl, interior otherwise in good shape. Has a trailer, and a drive, etc...only (would be) missing power. i can get pics if anyone is interested.
thanks,

Wow, what a change of events. I wish you were closer to redo my v-berth, that would help contribute towards a rebuild. Good luck.

I do not think it will sell . . . Certainly not for the price you mentioned.

I think $12-14k would attract a buyer.

yeah thats why im wondering. 2 have sold in the past couple months for 28-30k (97 & 98), so i was wondering what they would fetch without a motor.

I agree that 22 would be way too much, in fact that would be close to the value ready to run.

What engine did you have in it that needs $8500 bucks to rebuild? Can you do any of the labor yourself? Lots of new long blocks for sale on this site for much less than that. Swap the accessories and rent a tractor for a day to lower your new power in

it was a built 509, had some dart heads on it, carillo rods, eagle crank, etc...well all those parts are junk now. the previous engine builder (a marine efi specialist im told, and i did talk to the builder) put 3 different pistons in it...not sure why. i could assemble the top end probably, but i dont want to buy a bunch of new parts, easier for me to put in a used 502 if i can find a decent one.
