well last night I just burnt down one of my engines in my 89 357 sr1. talking to the motor guy today about my options. If Im going to fix one im going to do them both. He said he can do whatever I want as far as fixing them or building them up. I want it reliable but built he says he can get me 600-625 hp and have them still be reliable as the day they were made.
right now the boat is slow I know these are heavy boats with no stepped hull. But kinda looking for estimates on how fast I can get this pig to run with say 600 hp each side. Anyone have a comparible setup?

Would the increase in HP also require a Drive update also? Bravo 1 to a X or XR? Things to think about also. Good Luck. Sorry about the motor.

from what I gathered and talked to a few people about this and have been told the trs drives will hold up to 750 hp no problem. everyone ive talked to say they are strong just heavy and out dated but I don't know as I can only go by what im told and read

TRS shouldn't have any trouble at that HP, but the transmissions might depending which ones you've got.

have a 86 357 trs boat with mercury racing 525sc in it with ac and all equip runs 65 they will never be a fast boat unless they get dropped down a elevator shaft lol but love mine great ride and alot of room

Rebuilt both of mine several years ago, stroked to 496, rollers, 9:1 cr. stock heads. Runs a solid 65 on gps, not run on a dyne so I would be guessing the hp.
Replaced exhaust, upgraded fuel and oil systems, Quickfuel carbs . It goes on and on but its worth it after you get her running again. Get your wallet out, it's hard to stop once you get started.

mine are already 496 with mild head work I run 65 all day long with 4 people and a full tank of fuel
I guess im not going to be happy unless I can run 75 ish. im not gonna spend the extra on building the motors up if I cant achieve the 75 mark. ill just have them re built as they are and send it down the road and get something else.

not gonna go 75 in that boat with 600 hp..... maybe 725-750 hp yes.... 600 hp will put you around 68-69 with TRS, probably 70 with bravo, but your gonna start hurting bravos at that point unless you upgrade them to XR...

625 hp pushed my buddys 311 to 78-80 at best and they are WAAAAAY lighter and smaller boats..

I have mild 540's in my ' 93 357 with Bravo drives.Engines did a little over 600 on a car dyno with dyno headers, I would guess 575 hp with my Eddie marine wet exhaust. The boat likes a 28 pitch Bravo 1 prop best.Best speed I have seen is 72 mph, boat will run 70 on any day.Same motors in my ' 89 311 with Bravos would do 78 any day. Yes the 357 is a heavy tank, but it will crash through big water that would make me slow WAAAAAAY down in the 311 to avoid getting killed. There is no comparison in the rough.I think that you would need at least 700 per side to get that solid 75 mph.
